new guy / country rock announcement
Hi everyone,
New guy, here. Let me introduce myself.
My name is Stephan Franck, and I must admit that I qualify more as a pedal-steel guitar owner rather than a pedal-steel guitar player… I’m mostly a tele guy, although I’ve been known to trade instruments with the steel-player for a song or two towards the end of the fourth set, when the last six customers at the bar are either, drunk, stone, asleep, passed-out, or all of the above.
At any rate, I’m a huge fan of the PSG, but for the above mentioned reasons, I’ve been hesitant to post on this forum so far.
However, during my lurking period, I have come to follow a lot of your threads, and become quite found of a lot of you guys. Now, with B0b’s approval, I’m coming out and making my forum debut to share with you the following announcement:
I've often seen threads related to "the hippie steelers", country rock in general, how much it is missed and where it all went. I missed it too, and felt compelled to do something about it. I formed Mojave Road, a Los Angeles based band dedicated to genuine country rock. Our first CD titled "Maybe I'm A hound Dog." contains 10 new original songs by singer/songwriter Keith Baxter, and features a cool 7-piece band with a lot of telecaster, and yes PSG.
The album is produced by our drummer, Tony Brock (The Babys, Rod Stewart, Jimmy Barnes, Roy Orbison...) and features my all-time hero Jay Dee on pedal steel.
Saying this, I hope people won't feel that I'm trying to use Jay Dee's name to push a product, because this is not the idea. But it's true that there is *a lot* of Jay Dee on the album. He plays slow ones, fasts ones, has several great solos... it's a lot of fun.
Yes, there is real steel content on this CD, and my only wish, here, is to share this music with like-minded people (unlike-minded people welcome too!!!
At this point, I'm going to resist the temptation to describe the album further, but here's a link that will take you to the sound clip section of our website: http://www.mojaveroad.net/listenbuy.html
Check it out if you feel like it!
Stephan

Hi Stephan. Welcome aboard.
Unfortunately I'm at work and am not able to listen to your music. I'll have to check it out when I get home. but please don't apologize for what type of music you like. There are all kinds of people here that listen to all types of music. I would consider myself very open minded about it. I listen to everything from Old Waylon and Merle, to Joe Satriani and everything in between. I think listening to a variety of musci helps to make you more creative, but that's just my opinion. I really like all the bands that you mention here, and on your web page as being influences. Good luck with the band and once again, welcome. If your ever in the Dallas area, look me up.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!
Greg, glad to hear from you too. Haven't been able to catch your band live yet! Where do you play next?
JW, if you click on the link, it should take you to our music sample page. The samples might take a little while to load, because they all load at the same time--which is a glitch that should be taken care of soon.

Hi Stephan,
Welcome. I'm rather new to the Forum also , and I really enjoy the sense of community that exists among the members.
I'm sure you'll find this to be true for you as well .
Since you are in the L.A. area , you might check the Postings from Feb.21st and Mar.2 .
I think these events would give you the opportunity to meet with other players , and maybe even sell a cd or two !
Best regards,
Silvio

Hey, Forumistas, just wanted to say I've had the great pleasure of playing a few gigs with Stephan and Mojave Road (well, other band names before this), and he's a stellar tele picker, and super nice guy, been a real honor trying to keep pace with him on the bandstand! Think Albert Lee/Ray Flacke, he's on that level.
Do check out the music, I haven't had a chance yet, but early rough mixes were great, and Keith's songs are really original and wonderful.
Stephan, hope to pick with you again soon.

JW, thanks for ordering the album. Make sure to give me your feedback.
McClung!!! Thanks, but woah... i'm not quite in the same league with those guys... You know I always have a blast playing with you, and I have a feeling it will happen again soon...
Silvio, are you reffering to the LA steel jam? I hope to be able to make it (as an observer, that is...)
Hi Larry, does your band have a web site? I would love to hear you guys!
Thanks again to all for the warm welcome!

Hi Stephan,, no, don't have a web site, maybe some day. If you come up to our part of the world give me a shout!! We're just 25 miles out of Laughlin Nv.
In fact we're going over there today to listen to my friend Bill Bailey play.

Jerry and Erick, there are longer clips available directly on the cdbaby page, at www.cdbaby.com/mojaveroad.
They also have low-rez versions that might be more dialup friendly. The sound quality is not as good, though, that's why I send people to our website first.

Mike, Mark, David, thanks for ordering the CD!!!
As always, guys, please let me know how you like the album.
Mike, I've listened to the samples from your Gram & Chris tribute. I *love* your playing! You're matching that DRB sound extremelly well. I'm ordering that CD now! Who are the other musicians on those sessions?

Thanks Dick! I appreciate it! Make sure to give me your feedback.
The east coast would be great, and meeting you in person would be great too. We're still trying to get our stuff together, regarding the touring situation. I'll keep you posted on that.
Best
Stephan
