I just acquired a used Fishman resophonic passive pickup. It came with instructions for installation, but I'm hoping someone who has installed one of these can clear up one thing for me. The instructions explain to attach the pickup signal to the tip of the jack (that's the black wire from the pickup, which is already attached there), then it says the shield wire should attach to the sleeve. There is indeed a yellow wire attached to the sleeve of the jack, but that wire is not attached to anything else ... Uh, does it need to be attached somewhere to the cone or does it just hang out inside the guitar? Thanks.

Remove the yellow wire from the jack and attach the shield wire from the pickup to the ground of the output jack. It sounds like the yellow wire is left over from the previous installation. I've installed a few of those pups and can't recall ever seeing a yellow wire. |

The yellow wire might be a string-ground wire. Depending on how you install the jack, i.e. through the tailpiece or elsewhere, you will want to make sure that the strings are grounded. |

Thanks Jerry (and Jason). On closer inspection this evening I see that there are indeed two wires from the pickup that are attached to the jack. One to Tip and one to Shield. The yellow wire looks to be a pigtail on the Ring connector for doing a Stereo wiring: either another pickup or a mic. So everything looks like its wired right. Now I just need to go through the detailed install. |
