gospel steel guitar forums

Post by Stuart Legg »

After browsing for gospel steel concerts, clubs and forums I discovered that the whole experence was a nightmare.
Joining or getting info is like pulling teeth.
I was so disgusted with the blatant commercialism that after about an hour of this abuse I never will even go near anything related to gospel pedal steel guitar on the net.
The following is just one of the many wild goose chases.
I tried to join several. Here is just one example.
I listed my name and email address and then it wanted a VIP Code which it stated that I could get it from the support page. Guess what no support page available. No one to contact etc.
I was only interested because it was gospel and it had steel guitar within the forum.
It appears to me that this site is just another scam to get your name and email address.
Does anyone have any info on the site?

Stuart,
I don't know what Gospel Steel Guitar forum you are refering to but I have been a member of the following forum for a number of years and never have had a problem.
Just a bunch of steelers who love to give "praises to the Lord on an instrument of 10 strings"
(Psalms 33:2)

Gospel forums and the few gospel steel guitar forums are not all that free of commercialism and spamming as they are touted to be. I joined one three years ago because of the urging of my good wife. Within two weeks we were being spammed and E-mailed to death with religious literature and being asked for money. For at least a year after I asked to have our names removed from the forum, we were still getting the unwanted and unsolicited literature.

This forum (SGF) is a God send for its value in information and not being plagued due to third party information sharing or selling.

Ed,
All you have to do is take off 4 strings and you'll have it made! :D

BTW: I tried playing a 12 string guitar at one time but just couldn't get the feel of it. Besides that, the Holy Spirit liked the 10 string better. :D

Besides the Psalms 33:2 reference, a 10 string instrument is also mentioned @ Psalms 92:3 and Psalms 144:9.
You need to have a King James translations for it to say "an instrument of 10 strings".

Ed, I think the good Lord knew about the pedal steel guitar even way back then. God is no respecter of time. A thousand years is a blink of an eye to the Creator.

Erv, I tried to join the GSG forum and I entered my info to yuku and it said that it was already in use.
I assumed that I was already a member so I clicked on Forgot my password and got a new password by email.
I put my user name and new password in and then it wouldn't except my user name. I don't see any way to retrieve the correct user name.

Whoa there my Christian friends. I have received four rather critical E-mails from our Christian steelers because of my post on this thread.

I didn't mean to degrade Christians nor the name of the Lord. I merely stated that once joining two Christian forums we started receiving many unsolicited literature and spam type E-mails that included requesting financial support. I did not intend to run down Christians because they are believers.:?

Many non-Christian based forums and/or otherwise have the same problem in many instances.

Thanks for all the good info.
I had to have an operation the 23rd and 24th and I haven't been able to keep up with this topic but I will try some of these things in a few days to see what happens. Thanks
