bob - didnt you have a d-8 at one point? i am talking to todd about a steel and the hold up thus far on my decision is t-8 vs d-10 - either would be fine, but i cant decide

mike - i know you went thru this also (8 vs 10) - what finally made the cut. i think 8 strings are plenty, but it doesnt hurt to have the option of 2 more strings for $50. - i also see yours has the tone changer bridge on there (vs bob's straight bridge) but i dont see any pedals attached

I went with the D10,and I'm glad I did, I play pedal steel on a bunch of jobs, having both guitars with the same # of strings makes the transition easy. I have E13 Tom Morrell and C6 bottom to top C# F A C E G A C E D the 10string is pitched a 1/2 tone above the 7th string. My guitar is "cut" for pedals (it has a slot cut for the changer fingers that's difficult to do once the guitar it fully assembled), but I didn't have any installed, maybe one day. The bridge that Bob has wasn't available when my guitar was built.

Wow, nice guitars!!! Todd does A+ work, for sure. I'd really love to get one of these guitars, if I can scrape up the funds.

I've got a couple of questions for you guys...

1. String spacing. When you go to 10 strings, did the string spacing change? or is it the same spacing as the 8-string (like what you already play, Bob)?

2. Necks. I see that you both opted for the metal neck. Was that decision based on cost, or do the metal necks have a tone that you prefer. (i.e. if there was no cost difference, would you still choose the metal neck?)

The string spacing is a little tighter with the 10 st which is how I prefer it.

I went with the metal necks because I love the sound of the metal neck D8 I was playing so much I didn't want to change anything. I think the wooden necks might be a little easier to keep in tune.

I hear ya Bob. That's a rough gig to say the least. I used to keep my guitar a good distance away from the front of the stage. Having that distance there allowed me to protect my guitar from thrown drinks, a drunk who rushed the stage looking to fight me, and from my ex employer who almost fell over onto it more than once. Hang in there buddy.

Drew , I'll have to look up the font type up. I have forgotten the type set . Tho It is exactly what PA used on his mid 50's -60's steels.
James, Mike Bagwell sent me some nice clips of his playing a few weeks ago...... care to share Mike? Also Mike Neer has put up a few clips of him playing a Lap version of my guitars...... Buddy's Boogie, 4 wheel drive, Tenderly and probably a few more that are not coming to mind.
