We've got a number of steelers around these parts. As mentioned by Gary, Wayne Franco across the sound from us, Dan Tyack is in Olympia, Jon Hyde, Chris Middaugh, Ben Jones, Pat Rowe, Kin Alvers, John Ummel, Jimmy Webb is a super player, but is not out playing live alot these days. Jack Devers, Wally Giffin, Ray Hatachek and Tony Douglass in Tacoma. Orville Johnson and Marty Lepore play dobro and nonpedal. Another peninsula picker is Buddy Brewer. Then there's yours truly scratchin the table guitar.
I know I've left some out, but there's a start.
Almost forgot my buddy Steve Norman. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |

Dave now is a great time to remind all of "you" up there about our Portland Jam April 18th at Bushwacker's. Keep your eyes on the events section and your picks at the ready.

Looks like I won't be able to make it this year. I'm booked up north of Seattle that evening. I had a great time there last year and I'm sure you steelers will have another great jam. Last year it was the last Sunday in March and I was hoping that would be the same this year. I'll be playing in Portland Mar. 27 and Eugene the 28th. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |

Bob Knetzger and Al Terhune both helped get me pointed in the right direction. They're both on the East side of Lake Washington but I'd say regionally that still counts as Seattle.
I've got clearance for take off to your jam this year, Larry. I really look forward to putting faces to these names. I will be there. |

Hope to see a bunch of you guys down the road,,,maybe Dallas this year. March 11 thru 14.

I inadvertly said Tony Hamilton when it should have been Tyler Hamilton. I was talking to Tony Wilcox on the phone when I made the post.
Sorry for the goof. _________________ If you play 'em, play 'em good!

And Brian, it's so good to keep seeing your name pop up with pedal steel enthusiasm on the forum! You're the only drummer I've known who's picked up steel. It's possible I might be able to make it down to Portland in April, so maybe we can get a few together?
And there is no list of Seattle players if Paul Arnston's not on it. He's the best nonpedal player I've heard in person (and I'll bet he's good with pedals, too), and just the most modest player around. _________________ Al

Darrel, I mentioned Jack Devers. He's playing in a band called Buckboard. They don't play tons but it's a real fine band doing some great real country. everybody sings a bunch and they can nail a Ray Price shuffle with the best of them. I've filled in several times for the guitar player and had a blast every time. Jack's got a beauty of a Zum steel that sounds wonderful. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |

About an hour North of Seattle is a player named Ed Littlefield. He plays with Marley's Ghost and there is a great photo of him on the home page for Sierra Steels.

This is great news that there are this many of us! It feels like no mans land a little up here at times.
I'm just getting started in steel terms, 4 going on 5 years now. Anxiously awaiting my second steel and trying to play more shows here in Seattle.
I would love to meet some more of the local steel players.
It would be great to get a Seattle Jam together sometime.[/img] |

Hey guys! I'm the new player that Bobby has generously--beyond belief!--helped me get started on the pedal steel. Not only has he set me up with a solid guitar but he's also taken the liberty to connect me with you fine folks in my area. I live in Seattle at about exit 170 off I5. I've been playing 6-string guitar since I was 10 (I'm now 24) and music and my songwriting is what I want to do with my life--how come nobody told me this was going to be so tough?
If anyone of you all is playing anytime soon I'd love to come out and see you play and talk steel guitar! Right now, I'm excitedly waiting to receive my guitar and begin the process of learning a new instrument. Hopefully it won't prove too distracting during this time of getting my music off the ground! |

Hi Tyler. Welcome to Seattle and to Pedal Steel.
Bobby B is a cool dude aint he?
Theres a bunch of us gigging fairly regularly and we'd love to see you and chat with you. Dave H. and Steve Norman are two very prolific giggers and are great players to see play and to talk to. Ask Dave H. to put you on his mailing list, his band is fantastic!
I'm playing this friday with a band called Ben Gilmer and the Sidearms at a studio called the Ballard Mine. I have no idea how this venue is or what the show will be like, it will also be my last show with this band, but come on down if you can.
I look forward to meeting you Tyler.
Shoot me an email if you need anything.
This forum is an indespensible resource also so stick around.

Be warned, the pedal steel is not a casual instrument. Its also very addictive once you get going.
That said, its a wonderful instrument to have as a songwriter and recording artist and within a couple months you can be adding pedal steel to your compositions and that is very very rewarding indeed. Cheers. |

Hey Ben,
I'll see if I can make it to the Mine tonight. That venue looks pretty darn interesting from what I can gather. I look forward to meeting you too especially if I get to see you play firsthand! If for some reason I don't make it, have a great show and I'll see you play sometime soon.
I should get my guitar Monday--I'm too excited!
To everyone else here in the Seattle and surrounding areas, I'm looking forward to meeting those of you I can and sharing this awesome instrument! |

we play last tonight so 11:00PM...ungh
The venue is a recording studio / underground club so yeah... kinda weird but who knows? i hear they serve alcohol, so theres always that.
You should definetly check out Brian at the Hen, that place rules. Hell, I might be there myself.
edit: hold the phone...this is who you should go see tonight instead of me. Dave Harmonson with Zoe Muth.

Ok, as per your advice I'll take my girl to Dave's show tonight and if time at the end, we'll run to yours after if they'll let us in! His venue looks really neat as well... so many cool places to see live music here! Hope to see you later. |

hmmm... that venue says its a "home for acoustic music". I hope Dave is actually playing pedal steel tonight. Maybe he's playing dobro tonight instead?
Dave you out there? |

Dave told me he was indeed playing Dobro tonight with Zoe. I'm not as big a fan of the dobro as I am am the pedal steel (duh), but either one in daves hands is worth far more than the price of admission, maybe I'll see you all there! |

You are 100 % correct Olie! Dave slays on dobro and the fender double 8, but of course we prefer him on pedal steel.
Tonights gig was super fun. They did not have a bar , be warned, but were byob friendly which was actually a wallet saver for me. It was very underground, no pay that i know of yet, but well attended indeed. I recommend this place, it was funky and fun. we'll see how the recording sounds, the sound in the room for the other bands was very good.
I played like a two year old with boxing gloves on as always. awesome.
Tyler, we'll eventually meet up. Hope you and your lady had fun tonight wherever you went.
