I'm about to up grad to a Western D 1 TB internal hard drive on my I mac, I know I will need to format the hard drive, is there or what is the advantage of more than 1 partition
other question, I run snow leopard, should I install it first, then use my time machine to bring back all my things ?? |

I never partition any of my hard drives, I just create folders to organize the data. Yeah, Time Machine will bring back all your stuff to the new HD. But just to be extra safe, you should have two backups, in case the HD with the time Machine backup suddenly went bad, and I guess your old HD would be the second one. Another option would be to use SuperDuper to create a bootable disk image that you can use to put everything, including apps, on your old HD onto your new one. _________________ C#

Yeah, install (Snow) Leopard first, if you have an Intel processor and if that's what you have on your existing HD. I edited my first post, BTW. _________________ C#

Yep, looks bad. Replace it, install Snow Leopard (only if you have an Intel processor, SL won't work on a PowerPC processor) and get your stuff from Time Machine. You could put the bad disk in an enclosure (about $30) and connect it as an external hard drive via USB and see if you can use it at all if you wanna mess with it, but you could get a new 320GB external HD for under $100. _________________ C#

Thats my plan, it's a Intel, only 3 years old, you can get the 1 T.B hard drive for 99.00 @ Best Buy, Western D. Caviar Black, spent 2 day's researching H. D.
s this one has great reviews, and bench marks testing..my back up drive is 320 gig,
I'm just not sure if I should use the org disks that came with it which would be Tiger I think, my Snow l disk is a Up grade disk, just not sure it will give me back, I movie, I photo, ect... any thoughts?/ |
