Hi Marke,
Yep, we did have a lot of fun doing a little noodling. I'd taken my guitar to Mickey to change the C6th copedent from the standard C6th back to the Gary Hogue copedent (to keep the guitar with its original tuning configuration).
After Mickey did the tune-out on the guitar, he hooked up his G2 and started playing on a tune. He sounded really good! Then I happened to mention that it'd be fun if we could hook in both guitars and noodle a bit.
Mickey just smiled and said, "No problem, man, I've only got about a million amps lying around here" and he grabbed a Nashville 400 for me and a pedal delay. I couldn't resist playing a little (I've been going through some steel guitar withdrawal symptoms ... what I didn't tell Mickey yesterday is that about a week ago I took a spill on a sidewalk and sprained my hand, but it's feeling better and doesn't hurt too much now).
We hooked it all up, threw on the backing track and started noodling a bit. Mickey was a real trooper, too. He was suffering a "sinus infection from hell" and I could tell he was feeling really bad, but that didn't stop him from having a blast playing his G2. He just smiled and blazed right through it while playing some really nice stuff as we noodled along.
I was having so much fun watching Mickey play that I'd nearly forget to play along and then he'd point and I was like, "Oh, man, I've got to play something here"
There's a couple of spots where I had to laugh at myself a little when I saw the video ... I went for a certain pedal/knee lever combination and thought my guitar was going out of tune. Then I discovered after a little more noodling what was happening. My guitar is really "front heavy" and was sinking deep into the carpet. When I'd hit my RKL and 1st pedal, that action was pushing the front left corner of my guitar deeper into the carpet so the carpet was actually stopping the pedal before it was at its full travel.
To Mickey: Thanks for the excellent work on my guitar and for a really fun jam session of noodling around. It was fun Mullenizing the house with all that music ... it felt good to let my guitar breathe a little ... we pretty much played at stage volume (instead of the headphones volume that I always end up playing at when I'm at my house). _________________ 1986 Mullen D-10 with 8 & 7 (Dual Bill Lawrence 705 pickups each neck)

Mickey and jim : What a pleasure to hear you both playing your Mullins on U-Tube; Love the good job you were both doing on one of my all time favorites of PaPa John's. For a couple of amateurs, you did a superb job of entertaining us.. Let's hear more from you both. First time I've heard you , Mick actually playing a number on your steel. Is that Mullins a twelve string ? [ My eyes play tricks on me ; just had a new lens put in my right eye ]. That is a 12 string that Mickey is playing. If I'm not mistaken, He has a D12 coming if He doesn't already have it. Mullen is a Great Guitar. I love Mine. Larry B. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 3 & 5 The Eagle

Hi, Guys ...
Thanks so much for all your comments. (And, I'm also thanking everyone on Mickey's behalf as well) At the moment, Mickey's under the weather with a major head cold and sinus infection. I just talked to him on the phone and he's definitely down for the count this evening. Here's hoping he feels a lot better in the next day or two.
We really had a great time jamming around a little. As Mickey put it, we just noodled with the track a bit and didn't really attempt a serious go at it.
We're definitely going to do some more jamming; however, between my sprained hand trying to heal, Mickey's head cold/sinus infection and then the various irons in the fire that we've each got going, I don't think it'll be within the next few days.
Bernie, Larry is correct. Mickey is playing a 12 string. He does have a D-12 coming in but it hasn't arrived yet. I sure hope I'm able to be over there at his house visiting when it arrives because that's going to be a Kodak moment and I'd like to get some photos of it as it comes out of the case for the first time.
Lee Baucum, you've doomed me to go over to Catfish Sam's for a big order of fried catfish after clicking on that link of yours! _________________ 1986 Mullen D-10 with 8 & 7 (Dual Bill Lawrence 705 pickups each neck)
