Topic: Help with Matchbox 7A problem? |

I've got a 7A that I bought used and ever since I've owned it, it EATS batteries. It is a model with an ON-OFF switch, but I've even tried pulling the cable out for good measure. But I can leave it sit for a couple of days and come back to it and it's deader than a hammer. What gives? Anyone else have this issue? I think I mighta got took... Aggravating....

| Have you removed the 2 phillips screws on each end, popped it open, and check the wiring? Any poor or broke solder? Any copper touching other metal, not grounded? |

| You have to unplug the cables from it if it is like mine to turn it off, the switch is just a tone control bypass, not an on off switch. The unit is switched off when the cord is removed by using a tip-ring-sleeve jack as a switch. |

Agreed... but I use one in my practice room, and it works fine for almost a year without removing the 1/4 inch plugs. |

Well...it says "batt. on-off" under the switch....???
Anyway, I've been unplugging it because that's how the old ones operated. Still draining the battery. Maybe I'll give Goodrich a call or send it to my amp tech.

Ive a 6A, which doesnt have the battery kill switch, just the tone kill switch as mentioned previously. I'd check the wiring too, as I suspect theres a short somewhere. Check it while open, plugged in, with new batteries. Do they heat up?
Be nice if they offered a DC version, huh?

Yeah, I'll poke at it. I just expect these little boxes to always work and when they don't I just kind of stare at them and wonder why they won't do right. At the same time, it seems ridiculous to spend money to have a tiny box with a handful of chips and wires repaired, which brings me back to staring at it and wondering why it won't do right.

I live in Taylor which is about 30 miles north of you. If you like, the next time I am in Austin I could look at your Matchbox. There is not much in there to go wrong and those units are pretty robust.
