Anyone have a mid 70's SF Bandmaster with the large upright 2X12 cab?
I havent seen one in a long time.

Clete, here is a very nice Bandmaster for sale locally with the big cab..I have some mild interest but these cabs are not my thing, once you own them you own them for life ! I have had a few discussions with the owner but as of now no deal, the head is fine though. Typical AB763 amp...I have an offer pending so we'll see..

Here's mine. '71 non master Twin Reverb chassis dressed up with a new blackface plate, and my '75 Vibrosonic, all in Rick Johnson cabs. I love my original cone K130 JBL's with these two heads. brings the best out of my shobuds, at least to my ear. I do not miss the heavey combo cabs these chassis came out of!!

I've always wondered how much clean headroom one can get out of a Tweed Pro with a pedal steel. Could you compare it to, say a Deluxe Reverb?

Mike Poholsky, I still want to know how you got that 15" speaker centered in the cabinet like that. Looks cool.

Marc, I've never pushed it. Those speakers are hard to come by. The specs on the D-130 were changed after Dick Dale kept blowing them. Also, I've never played through a Deluxe Reverb. The Silverface 135 and the Standel cab with the EVM are a lovely combination, plus that amp was voiced for steel before I got it.

I've been "dialing in" a VHT SIG:X to go with the Standel. It's a surprisingly good sounding amp, on the clean channel, after Steve Fryette voiced it for steel.

Hey Johnny, No problem. I cut the baffle board, to fit the amp, laid it on the floor and centered the speaker on it, face down. Took the amp and laid it, face down, over the baffle board and speaker. Then it was just a process of turning the speaker so the transformer fits inbetween the web arms of the speaker. Of course making sure the transformer isn't too close to the cone of the speaker. Then I just outlined the speaker, marked where the holes needed to be and cut the baffle board. The speaker is a 15" Eminence that came out of my Steel King.
I like the look of the speaker being centered.

That orange JBL should be able to take whatever the Pro can put out. That's one of the later ones that Fender put in Vibrosonics, which had 4 6L6's and more power than was good for the D-130F.
I like the look of the centered 15" speaker too, but I like the weight balance of having it off to one side. It's easier to carry when the speaker balances the weight of the transformers. I wonder what the sonic differences are?

Thanks, Mike. I wish I'd thought of that when I converted mine to a 15". That was about 30 years ago, and I remember trying everything I could think of to mount it center. In the end, I just felt lucky that I was able to get it in there at all. I wonder if a D130F has a deeper basket than your Eminence?

I wonder what the sonic differences are, too. My guess is center would be the better location. Off center isn't bad though; this amp does Tele like you wouldn't believe. But then again, you might.

1963 "Double Showman w/JBL D0130Fs (The Big Kahouna) and 1966 Bandmaster. The Bandmasters tolex was molded and hanging off when I got it, so I decided to make it the 63's little brother.

These are my 68's. The tall bandmaster I bought after working all Summer in 68. It was my high school gigging amp. The others are a Showman 1-15 tone ring, Pro Reverb and Twin Reverb.
