Can someone recommend a 100% Free virus and spyware download that won't slowdown my computer to a crawl. I have 2 computers hooked up in a network one is a Vista downloaded with Trend Micro Pro on it and my second computer with 2000 XP can't handle being downloaded with it. I need to dowload it with something that won't slow it down so bad.
I downloaded AVI free and it slowed it down to less then a crawl.

I don't know if this is the best out there, but it has helped me. The free version is what I've been using for the last 5-6 months and I've been happy with the results. When the free trial expires, you can request a code that will be good for another year. Very easy!!

Hank, I use the free version of Avast also! I've had it for 3 1/2 years and its been great. Like they said above, you have to re-register once a year. Ray

Try Avira AntiVir Free. I have used it on many computers and it is very friendly to them. It is only updated once a day, so protection is sub-optimal.
If you want to get a commercial program for Windows 2000 I can find and recommend your best option. In the meantime, see if AntiVir works on that PC.

I am having no problems at all with Microsoft Security Essentials:

Easily configured and updated regularly. It puts a little icon in your system tray. As long as the icon is green, you are protected. Other than the icon, I don't even notice it.
All I am using now is Microsoft Security Essentials, my Host file, and an occasional checkout with Malwarebytes.
I've said goodbye to AVG, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot Search and Destroy. |

Thanks everyone for all your responses. I have downloaded Antia AntiVir FREE that Wiz recommended because it fit my needs better at this time. It's seam to be working great.

I'm sorry that I have not been to your forum in a while. I have gotten back into the leathercraft business and recently acquired a big old Union Lockstitch harness and holster stitcher that needs parts, which I am searching for online every day. It has consumed a lot of my spare time, along with other matters of importance to me. I will make a point of revisiting your forum ASAP!

most trials come complete with spyware and backdoor bots,I have used AVG free for 6 yrs now without even 1 virus or stuff i dont want,it is free,everyone i know that uses it will vouch for the product , it is also upgradeable if you want full version,here is the link.

 what Mitch said, Microsoft Security Essentials is the bomb......100% free real time protection and and updates everytime a new definiion is added,it is rated in the top 5 av apps already. And I definitely suggest u add Malwarebytes , these two apps will give u about as good of protection as there is  |
