This has floored me and I feel totally gutted. John was so helpful when I was negotiating the purchase of my Carter steel, and I looked to both he and Ann for advice when it was needed. Always it was unstintingly given.

Ann, my deepest sympathies and condolences on a terrible loss. Our community is diminished most significantly by his passing. Geographic distance does nothing to alleviate the sense of loss and shock.

The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.

I was so happy to meet You in Bettystown in october. All french steelers of my friends are so sad. But John is a mountain and he will give more many rivers for ever.

It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act.

Ann, you have my sincerest condolences on this sad loss. John was an important contributor to the whole steel community, as was the Carter company.

My thoughts are with you Ann...I'll think of John every time I sit down at my Carter. He allways helped me long distance when I was reconfiguring my copedents....Larry
