I played the opening for the Loretta Lynn show tonight at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth. Charlie Archer did some absolutely fabulous steel playing behind her tonight. It seems the last few years the etiquette between players is not what it used to be, and it was a refreshing surprise to see Charlie come up to the little stage and introduce himself and talk guitars the few short minutes we had before the show.. I appreciate that Charlie and you sounded simply marvelous my friend.. |

WOW! She is still touring on the road in her mid 70s.

Roger, I can name a few in the 27 years that I was with her as lead guitar player. First was Jerry Merhar. Jimmy Murphy, Harold Foggle, Bob Hempker (23) years, Terry Bethel, Jimmy Crawford, And John Hughey. After I left I don't know any of the others except Charlie Archer. Of coarse Charlie played Lead Guitar for Conway Twitty From 1974 until Conway's Death. May be some one can tell you the later players. Dave Thornhill |

If I'm not mistaking, I think Hal Rugg also played for Loretta. At least on some of her recordings. Larry B. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 3 & 5 The Eagle

Larry, Hal recorded on probably 90 percent of Loretta's records but also Speedy West, Don Helms, Weldon Myrick, Bob Hempker and I'm probably leaving out one or two. Dave Thornhill |

I still recall the first time I saw Loretta perform. It was "The Friday Night Opry" in 1963 in a small auditorium in the WSM studios in downtown Nashville.
I recall she wore a brown jumper style dress and an orange blouse. My how time flies!
PS:I didn't own a camera in those days.

I remember seeing her on Austin City Limits with a steeler named Pearly Curtis or I think that was his name. He played good.
