I used the Telonics pedal for a series of gigs last week and really started to get a feel for the #4 pot emulation. This really is a great volume pedal.
I recorded this today while practicing. I used my standard gigging setup:- Zum Steel - Steel Mixer - Telonics Volume Pedal - Boss Delay - Digitech Digiverb - Fender Twin.
I simply put a mic on the speaker and went straight into the soundcard. I haven't added any EQ or compression to the recording and used the same amp settings as last nights gig... really.
The playing might be dodgy in places but in my opinion the sound level is real smooth. This speaks volumes (sorry about that!) about the characteristic of this volume pedal and the #4 setting.

Nice playing & Tone, I use the same pedal, and so far #4 is the best setting for me also, I will be meeting up with Dave , the builder of the pedal Wens night in Px, picking up his Pre amp and amp, I am really excited about trying his stuff out, I think in time we will be able to hook up the pedal to our computers and build our own program for the pedal.. |

I, too, use the #4 setting.
The literature that came with the pedal said something to the effect (pun intended) that "around Christmas" the company hoped to have available a more rugged plug-in transformer and cord. Has anyone gotten that yet or know anthing about it?

I received an email from Telonics on November 19 asking me to verify my snail mail addy. Within a couple of weeks, they shipped a new power supply. The wall wart and jack are the same; however, the cable is quite a bit more robust. |

Eric,
In order to produce the initial pedals without delay, we were only able to procure power supplies (which were in compliance with our stringent technical specifications), with a two wire "zip"-type cord. I didn't feel that it would be sufficiently reliable in the long term. We promptly ordered a large number of custom power supplies fitted with a round cord more to our liking. This process took some 12 weeks. After receiving the new ones and successfully completing qualification tests, we began supplying the new power supplies to all pedal owners (they were not asked to return their original power supplies, we suggested that they retain them as back-ups). To our knowledge, everyone has received the new supply - but if you own a pedal and were missed, or, if you know of anyone who has not received the new power supply, please have them forward an email with the CTN/serial number on the side of their pedal and we will ship power supplies out immediately, we have around 1,000 fully tested power units for the pedal currently in stock.
I would also point out after all that effort and cost, we have never been made aware of any failures or problems with the original power supply cords - nonetheless, the newer, more robust chord just simply seemed like the right thing to do.
Gregg, glad yours arrived in good order, thanks for the update.
Please let us know if you are aware of any problems and we will rectify them immediately. As for the taper settings, the stock #4 setting is indeed very popular and is based on the average of a large number of the “original “ Allen Bradley pots (the ‘Gold Standard’ in the opinion of many a steel player).
David, you have a complete pre-production prototype system fully bench tested, set up and waiting for you to use to peel the paint off the walls of the club and the convention center hall you will be playing in. The entire mini-rack weighs about 20 pounds, complete with all cables and plugs stored in its pouch (heavy duty dual stereo speaker cables, aux input cable, power cords, etc). It houses a LeMay/Telonics preamplifier, the new Telonics PA-200 1,000 watt stereo power amp (the PA-100 is Mono, the PA-200 is Stereo), and the Lexicon dual processor EFX unit with our latest presets in it. The new power amp is also a microprocessor-managed power management and distribution center. It has special circuitry that prevents any loud pops when someone kicks the band's main AC power cords out of the wall, or, when any AC or DC power cord in the system is pulled out (like the pedal) - I like to think of it as being "more polite" than the old amps... no more blown speakers. The power amp provides power to the EFX unit, the preamp and the pedal, so there are no wall warts and there is no need for a power strip (I no longer need the one on my pac seat). (It can be factory configured for export power as well, so no adaptors, transformers or special wall warts will be required for the pedal or any of the system components when used with UK, EU, AU or JP AC mains power.) We also have a special pedal and three pairs of speakers for you to choose from. We got Billy all set up this morning, he is now armed to the teeth. I’ll pick you up at the hotel Wednesday night and take you over to the Telonics laboratories so you can try them all and use the ones you prefer. Should we change the blue light in the pedal to a…… red one for you?
John, remember that our winter weather is generally pretty nice compared to CT, so come see us when you can.

Yes certainly, we will be bringing a lab technician (Stacy) to Dallas so we can check out your pedal and update the firmware (this will NOT effect any changes you have made to your minimum off adjustments on individual tapers). We will be happy to give you a new U.S. power supply. I should clarify that the power supply discussion regarding the heavier cord only applies to the domestic US power supply. The international power supply already has a cable/cord we like. Please let me know if you do not have the international power supply with the set of interchangeable AC Mains prongs and we will bring you one of those as well.

I do have the international power supply and I am more than satisfied with the pedal in every way.
With regard to updating the firmware,(please pardon My ignorance)What is the benefit? I am totally satisfied with the pedal.
My reason for asking is that I usually travel light(hand luggage)to Dallas.

Billy, I am at home at the moment so I don't have access to the records that tell me what firmware revision you have. We have not encountered any problems in any firmware revisions and we wring them out extensively. However, our software engineers continue to make improvements in the way data is stored, handled and implemented in the pedals. At one point, we moved from a "global" minimum off concept (wherein the minimum off affected all tapers), to an individualized format wherein the pedal records and stores the most recent change you make for a given taper, specifically with that particular taper. This enables the user to adjust any or all the tapers uniquely. This new adjustment point is then stored along with other data for that particular taper and is then recalled instantly when a given taper is selected. That way, each taper and it user's desired minimum off setting for that taper are handled individually within the system and the minimum off settings can all be different from one another if so desired by the user.
It was not a trivial thing to implement, so it could not be done in the initial release of the pedal. It is possible that you already have this function. BUT, not to worry. A new firmware updater has been written which can be accessed through out web site (by access code which can be issued to registered owners). It is now being tested (Mark Dunn is one of the first people to have used it in the last few days - we will announce it by the Dallas show). So you can upgrade your firmware and install later updates right there at home - so if you are not bringing your pedal to the States, no worries.

Ed, It was on Tom's website I first saw the FP-100. Tom also sent me the fixing dimensions for the pedal when I was making the first Steel Mixer Floor Plate. Tom's a very helpful gentleman and I appreciated his help.
Thanks for the kind comments about the YouTube clip folks. I particularly liked Ford's comment... sounds like a page out of Tommy White's play book... Yes.. I thought...followed by... I wish!!!
Back to reality... If you're in the UK this weekend coming up, John Davis is having a Steel Meeting on Sunday at Great Barford, Bedford. There's always a selection of nice players to watch and pick up tips from. Sarah Jory will be receiving an award from the ESGHoF, and playing. David Hartley will be playing, showing off his Steel Mixer, Telonics pedal and Evans amp. I'll be doing a bit of playing and talking about all the new toys! John's meetings are great for steel players of any ability and everyone has a chance to play, so bring your steel with you.

Talked to Ivan and he said his Telonics pedal is just the standard setup ...presume it was not set to low profile, but it felt lower than my Goodrich LDR2 .... felt extremely comfortable actually ...and sounded really good - look forward to test driving in Dallas.

Thanks Hooky - yes I think it is actually a lower profile than the LDR2 .. I compared both pedals into Ivan's TC split12 ...it was like night and day, quite surprised me ...which is why I want one

Well, Been playing 3 + nights with the amp set up Dave had ready form me, due to my liminted abillty to spell, all I can say is WOW  I will have more to say when I get back to Dallas.. I'm ready to get back home, but not ready to leave this amp set up behind
