While training at Ft Ord, Ca. in 1970, I stopped into the Corral club in Seaside a few times. I can't remember the steel player's name? Would he be one of our Forumites?

OH The Corral Club :Had a lot of good times there.Saw Little Jimmy Dickson there in 67.
I was at Ord from 66 to68.Played Bass in a little band at that time (No Name)Ever time we got good, someone shipped out. That is why it was called No Name.We had thought of F T A but that is an other story. |

FTA....I remember that! haha..forgot until you mentioned it.
I also frequented the Navaho Hogan club in Colorado Springs while at Ft Carson. Also used to follow Norm Tester and the Western Wheels band around the area. The steel/lead guitar player (George Ramsey) was so kind as to pick me up on post and take me with him to a gig off post occassionally. They played regularly at 4 clubs on post.

I've been living on Fort Ord now for 8 years. They closed the base and started a University here, California State University Monterey Bay, where I work. The Corral club in Seaside must have been gone for a long time. I've never heard of it but will ask some of my music buddies who are locals about it and see if I can get some information on who the steel player was.The only country music in the area now on a regular basis is the Windjammer in Aptos where I play every Thursday with Larry Hosford, a local Salinas legend. I am not familiar with that club... but, I was a junior in high school @ Seaside High back in late '60's. My father was stationed at Fort Ord - going to language school.
My family used to eat at a place on Cannery Row that had some really good musicians ... bango, guitar, etc. I can not remember the name now -- served spaghetti, etc.
I had a chance to go to this musical festival when I was there - but, decided not to go at the last minute. Should have gone - it was the Monterrey Pop Festival! |
