How difficult is it to change the knee lever setup? My current guitar the e's are on the left. I am getting another guitar and the e's are on the right. I am fairly mechanically inclined and will have my current guitar to refer to but was wondering if I may be in for any surprises. Thanks

John, you should have no problems. Just do the lowers first and tune the Eb notes just slightly flat then engage the lowering lever and locate and tighten the set collars on the raise rod right up against their swivel while the lowering lever is engaged so you will maintain the proper slack. Then it is just a matter of adjusting the cross shaft with enough travel to accomplish the raises on 4th and 8th strings, particularly the E to F# on string 4. If you run into trouble I would be glad to help thru email and I am sure many others would also.

Thank you Jerry. It didn't seem from looking at it that it would be to bad but I wasn't sure if I would need to remove crossshafts to get to bellcrank screws or anything out of the ordinary. Thanks again and have a fun and safe hoiday season.

As Jerry said, I would start with the lowers.
Go slow, take notes, and above all pay attention and you should have no problem. Jerry offered to help. If you get in a bind and cannot reach Jerry, I would be more than happy to help guide you along.
Best,
Justin

Make sure your changer is in tune after you get things switched around. Also you should have a small space between your bell crank and your collar that raises your 4 and 8 string. If you try to set them tight it won't work. Having your lower end a bit flat is also a very good idea.

Do you mean the E->F and E->Eb levers are both on the right knee and you want to switch them over to the left knee?

If that's the case you need to make sure that you have 2 pull rods and 2 push rods of the right length first.

For instance if you're going to put the "F" lever on the LKL, you'll need 2 pull rods that reach to the LKL cross shaft......or if your going to put the Eb lever at LKL than you'll need 2 push-rods long enough reach that cross-haft.

You should do an inventory to make sure you have everything you need to make the desired changes before you start the job.

That is exactly what I mean Tony and that was the type of thing is was worried about. I will wait and see when I get it. I was assuming that the rods that currently to the hanger to the knee would just get swapped but i don't know.

If you already have 2 pulls on that lever than I see no reason why you cant re-use the rods.

You're right. Obviously there's no problem re-using rods. You just need to make sure you have the correct number pull rods (or push rods) that are long enough to reach the "targeted" cross-shaft.

For instance......if you're trying to swap out LKL that has B->Bb with RKL that has E->F, you can easily cut down the push rods to fit the RKL shaft but you won't have 2 pull-rods that are long enough to reach the LKL bellcranks.

John,
Just in case you don't know, Jerry Roller is very knowledgeable about Emmons guitars. He has helped me out more than once. He happens to be one heck of a nice guy too.

Good Luck,
Justin

Justin, I do know about Jerry's expertise. When I get this guitar in my hands I am going to do like Tony said and inventory everything and I will be contacting Jerry for the parts I need. And your right Jerry is one of the nicest guys on this forum.
