This is probably my favorite record of 2009. Lots of great steel from Greg Leisz, songs are very well crafted, all the other players are excellent also

Thanks for the link, Scott. The music player on their site works well. I like the way this band uses traditional country instruments in modern song structures. Very hip.

Greg's parts are so understated, but always right on. That's what I like about his playing.

This is somebody that I've been paying a lot of attention to lately.

I purchased the WPA cd a couple of months ago.

Here's a link to another track that he recorded with the group Tiger Army:

I also enjoy his work with Matthew Sweet and Bill Frisell.

This deserves a bump - just downloaded the free live EP and the playing is great, very economical/tasteful. Benmont Tench sounds good on piano, too.

Greg played guitar with me on a gig in LA in the early 80s, and he played one wrong note. And he wouldn't tell me which one it was. Smile

One of my favorite steel songs of all time is Greg Leiz's "Santo's Dream" on the Legends of the Incredible Lap Steel Guitar CD.

The cresendo in the middle gives me goosebumps!

Greg is an incredible talent.

Great stuff! Looking at their website leaves me wondering if Glen Phillips is at the core of the development of this group. It reminds me very much of a similar project he put together several years ago called "Mutual Admiration Society". Just listening to the songs on the website makes me think it's Glen's writing for sure. I also see that Sean and Sara Watkins of "Nickel Creek" fame are part of the group as they were with "Mutual Admiration Society".

Thanks for the heads up b0b, I'll definitely pick this disc up for sure!

I really like that stuff!

Greg played on a cut on the Eagles album "Long Road Out Of Eden" entitled "Do Something" by Timothy B. Schmitt. Real tasteful playing.
