Tom Bath played an awesome rendition of this song, Florence Jean, at the PSGA a while back. No one recognized the tune so it didn't have a big impact but it has some nice changes in it. I'm gonna post the tab for the intro and maybe a few other parts soon. I know all the veterans here have heard all of this stuff before, but I think it's good to post some classic country steel playing now and then for those that might have missed it. Thank goodness the Eniac, PDP/8 and core memory did not support the modern vocal fixing techniques. No amount of vocal processing will give you a voice like the one heard on this recording.

Thank you Greg.
I had never heard this song.When I try to concentrate on the vocals the steel playing distracts me, and when I try to concentrate on the steel playing the vocals distract me.
It's Perfect!! JP & Lloyd were quite a team. |

That's okay I suppose, but he's no Brad Paisley.

The rhythm section on this recording is really tight. The drum(s) seems to have a shuffle beat to them.
Is the drummer using the high hat pedal and sticks to get this or is it a tight snare. It's kinda reminiscent of a wood block / rim shot sound on a snare but maybe just played on the high hat???? Any drummers out there that can clue me in?
The piano, bass and rhythm guitar are really simple but perfectly in synch leaving a lot of room for the steel and vocals. It's interesting how they even panned the drums making is easier to tune in or out mentally to any part of the recording. Lot of stuff going on here!

Sounds to me like a side stick on the snare but possibly with the snare wires loosened to give it a deeper sound than you would normally get with the snare wires tight.
Lotta great stuff on this lp!!
