What is a good analog delay?

Steel guitar amplifiers, effects, etc.

I heard this "Chicklet" Reverb pedal the other day and thought it sounded really close to a Twin Reverb reverb (last sample at this site is slide guitar):

I need this for stages (flatbeds?) that vibrate too much for real spring reverb.
[woops, just noticed its a deley thread]

Can you really hear the difference between the various units?
Aside from putting a slow oscillator on the delay time (for vibrato/chorus/flange/etc), the only difference I can imagine is that the repeated sound deteriorates more in some units than in others. Mostly that means the high frequencies go away a little with each repeat. That impairs the pleasant interaction (chorus effect) between original and repeated signals, but some players like it. On my cheap Lexicon there is even a setting to emulate cheap analog units by cutting some highs out of each repeat.

Another vote for the Deluxe Memory Man. Lots of $$$, and a big foot print, but what a sound. It's all about the input (gain) control.
That said, when I don't take my rack out (Lexicon MPX-1), I'm using the Carbon Copy, which is pretty good.

I use a cheap Crossfire and its warm and true to its analogue circuitry. Check on line for price. Cant beat it for value and tone. Cheers

I just tried the new EH Memory Boy. It's much smaller, with a few less features, but sounds great! Cheaper too. They are also making a Memory Toy, which hasn't been released quite yet. Still smaller, still cheaper.

Marc - The Memory Toy has been released. I have one and really do like it. It's one of the newer EH "Nano" pedals. They are quite small. I have the matching Holy Grail "Nano" reverb. They work well together.

REAL ANALOG delay...
Image

Morley/Tel-ray oil can delay pedals...prototype in black and production unit (Morley EVO-1) in front. It doesn't get any better or more more analog than this.

For improved practicality/portability, I have had great results with the Freakshow Effects Digilog delay. It has great versatility, easy to use (4 knobs and a mini toggle), does great slap back, lush delays with multiple repeats and controllable self-oscillation. and it looks good too...that's it on the far left. Company is small and based in Maine. Good folks making great pedals.

If you have a Mac and the latest Logic,
there are some nice modeled amps and pedals.
Here's what I've been using at home:

Though not true analog, it suits me fine for recording
and quiet headphone practice listening to
steelradio.com.

One cool feature is the mic placement.
Use this instead of eq to dial in your tone!

Cheers,
Clete

Billy,
I dont have a site, and Logic isn't free,
but its a lot more affordable now than when it first arrived on OSX.

The settings Im using are edits on a preset called Swing to Bop. Amp is changed to Silverface, and Speaker changed to 15". The pedalboard only had compression (which I dont use), so I added the delay, drive and tremelo to experiment with.
Here's a peek at the other presets in the Jazz section:

Maybe a future edition will have PSG presets

Although I don't use it, I imagine GarageBand (which is free) has some method of achieving similar results.
