Columbus Ohio Gospel Steel Jam&show

Post by LARRY COLE »

I just got back from Gary Prestons Gospel Steel Show & Jam and it was a great time. I was honered to play guitar Friday night with Joe Adams, a great player and teacher, and my adopted son Greg Zimmer and to play steel today on stage with Gary Preston, Kenny Krupnick, Barry Wheeler, and Eddie Dixon, a great guitar player himself, my good friend and ex piano player Curtis Mason, the always there to help us out, Todd Meadows on bass and I don't know the drummers name but they were all did a fine job. Then we were all treated to Del Ray Grace and his Amazing Grace Praise Band fron Toledo, Ohio. They rocked the house down with a blues gospel style that was exceptiona. I can't forget my brother in Christ and new friend Ray Branham, an exceptional guitar player too. Gary and Eddies group Spirit Wind, Phil Perrys group( Phil even played some good b***j), and the Murphys were also great. I can't forget my buddy Dustin Rigsby for all the help, even if he only played in the entranceway.

Just to add to what Larry said . I was so thankful for all the players and visitors from all over Ohio and surronding states . Thanks to Mr. Joe Adams for doing a great seminar for us . This is the first time that i heard Joe play and believe me folks this man is blessed by God . He knows the ins and outs of the pedal steel guitar . He was so helpful to answer all the questions and demonstrate the ''licks and runs '' and give great advice about the steel guitar . He did a great set for us afterward and the people loved him .Joe will be back with us soon . If anyone has a show at any time you must give Joe an invitation to come and play you wont be sorry . I must add that Joe is a gentleman and a Christian ,very pleasant to be with . Thank you Joe so much . Thanks so much to Dustin Rigsby and Larry Robison for the stage help they did a great job . Larry surprised me with his knowledge of the praise music that the Amazing Grace Praise Band knew . HE GETS AROUND . Thanks to our church for letting us use the building . The Amazing Grace Praise Band were just awsome . They are great people , and great workers for God . I love them very much ,God bless them each and everyone . I know that all people have their style of music that they like and thats ok but i like a varity of music myself . Mr. Phil Perry had some problems with his knee but still came and did a great job for us ,thanks Phil and the group . Mr Barry Wheeler from Charleston West Virginia did a great job for us . Dennis Robison did a great set for us also . Gregg Zimmer did a great set for us . Larry Cole , Kenny Krupnick ,Barry Wheeler and Myself had a great time with our set and got a standing ovation for the song ''Old Rugged Cross ''. Thanks folks for that . A special thanks to Todd Meadows for his Bass playing . Thanks to Larry Cole for doing double duty on Lead Guitar and Steel ''Love You Man ''. Curt Mason for the fine piano playing . The group The Murphys did a great set for us with some heart warming songs . The group Spirit Wind as always did a great job with their music and Eddie gave his testimony about his healing from brain cancer . What a blessing he was . A special thanks to Keith Yantis for playing the drums and setting up his drums for all to use ,he did a great job. My wife did a great job giving away gifts between sets to fill in the sets . My son took pictures of the event ,so if anyone needs pictures just let me know and i can tell him . I know i have forgotten someone so please forgive me if i did . Again thanks so much for all your help and God bless you all . Gary .
[This message was edited by Gary Preston on 17 January 2005 at 08:05 PM.]

Joe Adams is probably the best "Unknown" Steel player around. THe first time I saw him he was around 12 years old playing a chrome RICKY. As a matter ot fact I have his first guitar-a Bakelite 7 string Ricky. Hid dad played steel and I saw him when I was around 5 yrs old and that got me interested.I used Joe since the early 60's on shows I promoted.I have tapes of him that would blow your mind. It was a pleasure performing at brother Gary's Jubilee, there was so much God given talent at the Parson Ave Church that if I hadn't seen it for myself I don't think I would've believed it.To make a long story short my life was touched by all of the friendly people, hospitality and genuine love shown to the Amazing Grace Praise Band.We consider you guys family and I will never forget this day,we are all one people in Christ Jesus.Love you all and please keep the praise band before the Lord in prayer as we use this gift to spread the good news.Hopefully we can all do this again next year if so count us in Brother Gary.

To all that attended,we had a great and Spiritual time of fellowship at the 2005 Gospel Steel Guitar Jubilee. I really would like to take the time to thank everyone for thier continued prayers for my daughter who is in the hospital. The overwhelming support from All of my brothers and sisters in CHRIST have encouraged me in this difficult time. A special thanks to Gary's wife Patti for talking and counseling with me. Gary and Patti Preston and larry and Donna cole are really special friends to me. Also I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank the members of Spiritwind for being such good friends as well. Whenever I get to talk to them and hear them play and sing it does a lot to soothe and refresh my spirit.

Now on to The Amazing Grace Praise Band. They were truely....AMAZING ! It was such a joy to talk to Del Ray Sr. about how the sacred style is really taking hold and being noticed around the country and probably the world. This generation is the first to put this style of music to tape. And he said he was nervous...I don't know why, cause that band is way together. Simply Awesome.

Dennis Robinson impressed me as well. He knows every song in the Hymnal ! Also did a Niiiice job playing "EXODUS". Phil Perry gave a stellar performance, despite being hurt. I hear he had to give up his other gig at "SHOWBIZ PIZZA PLACE" (it's an inside joke)! Image

I know I have forgotten others and I am sorry for that. Please know that I appreciate all of you who came out this year. For those of you who did not make....you missed out on a two day blessing ! I hope you weren't snowed in. Image

Hi to all. Image I'm back up and running on the computer.2weeks ago we had all the rain, and ended up getting about 2 inches of water downstairs here. I thank the Lord that we were able to move everything upstairs, and nothing got any water.Praise The Lord!!! Image
I just hooked the Comp. back up this morning.Keeping everything else upstairs till the landlord gets the place fixed.
I want to thank everyone, and say I had a great time last weekend at the Jubilee. Enjoyed Del Ray Grace and his group very much, and bought his CD.I hope they will come back next year.It was great to see Ray Branham also.He is a great guitar picker to say the least. If Herby Wallace could have been with us, that would have put the icing on the cake for Ray, since they both played together for many years.
I want to thank Joe Adams for his seminar, and his set. He's a fine picker that seems to be unknown in our area.
Thanks to Barry Wheeler for coming up and pickin' also. Maybe next year Barry can have his wife Anenette sing, and he back her up. She's a great singer.
I play for the Murphy's,and we had a booking later that evening, so I didn't get to hear Phil Perry's group,or Gary's group.
Lookin' forward to The 2006 Gospel Steel Guitar Jubilee. Image
