Sneaky Pete Kleinow Fuzz Tone Question

Post by Gabriel Aaron Wynne »

To anyone who might know:

What exactly did Sneaky Pete use to achieve his fuzz tone?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

According to an old Steel Guitarist mag. interview from 1979, Pete used a fuzz tone that he designed himself. He stated that it had a mellow tone and a special circuit that clipped the signal to his specs. That was all the info he shared with the interviewer.

He may have used other devices later on, but this was the fuzz tone he listed in his chain at that time.

I recall that tone, along with his all around sound had a unique quality special only to Pete. I could tell it was him the minute I heard it. A true stylist, he was.

Perhaps someone who knew him and was more familiar with his equipment can shed more light on the subject.

I wonder what was used on the first burritos album?
Jordan? maestro? the homemade one?

I wish Sneaky was still around to tell us. What a fascinating and truly original player.

he used a device called a Fender Blender. Can't say for sure but at the time (1969) a friend of mine had one and his tele sounded pretty cool when he switched it on.
