Having been living under a rock for the last couple of years, I've lost touch with modern technology. I've got a D-10 Zum with single coils that I love but the engineers aren't so crazy about.
So what is the general consensus on the best sounding pick up for a Zum? I need a good sound in the studio for this guitar and of course a nice warm live tone is always desirable. I've got my P/P Emmons for classic country gigs and normally play non-pedal with my swing band, so this is pretty much my working E9th / recording axe and I want to tailor the tone in that direction.
As an aside, if any of you pros know a good recording engineer that remembers how to record a vintage Emmons without thinning out the tone or making you sound like your playing inside a gunny sack, I've got a couple of kids down here I'd like to send to him for lessons.  |

Paul I have just put a pair of Lace Alumitones in my standard changer Zum - they retain the single coil type tone and response, but are humbuckers so you get the best of both worlds - they record wonderfully.
There is a thread or two on these pickups - do a search for more info.

Paul, i put 2 Bill Lawrence 710s on my D10 & am quite happy w: them
i really did like the True Tones that were originally installed but hum sometimes got in the way
i have'nt tried the Alumitones, that most are raving about tho' |

my zum has old single coil emmons pickups on it now..very similar to the stock zum...never had a problem recording (usually direct) with either.
some studios do have poor wiring construction or bad lighting fixtures...that's their fault. |

Hey Neighbor!
Ask a dozen people their opinion and you'll likely get a dozen different answers, since it is a matter of taste.
I've tried many different p'ups in my Zum. The best sounding humbucker I've found is the Emmons 108N. A couple of people at our club jam has recommended that I leave this one in there!
I tried an Alumitone and for me, it just doesn't sound like a Zum with it installed. That's just my opinion, though.
If I could live with a single coil, it would for sure be an Emmons s/c....that was the best in that catergory.
