Unbelievably...the Steel King is no longer on the product roster for 2010. Fender had already discontinued the similar Jazz King a few months ago...now the Steel King follows. Oddly enough, the tube Custom Twin 15" stays on....and that one is well known for being problematic.
This is really disappointing, since it says that Fender just wasn't making a profit on this amp and it wasn't selling. I personally love this amp far and above any other that I have used, and it is too bad that it will no longer be in production for others to enjoy as well.
Perhaps they are coming out with a new steel amp to replace it?

Fender wants to move hardware.. Lots of it.
This amp was small potatos in the grand scheme of things I guess... Its not about servicing musicians it seems.. Its about moving hardware. bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

Maybe if they concentrated a little more on quality control they might have sold a few more units !!!! _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

I think the steel king is a good amp
with a black widow 1501-4 speaker in it
as for the speaker they use not for me
also its a very heavy amp to lift
I would be interested in a 112 version
with a better speaker and less weight

I tried one out over a few days and found it to be a well-featured amp with great tone. It's biggest drawback for me was weight. In competing against my SE200 Evans at 37 lbs., it's extra 30 lbs. was just a bit too much. But as the man says, they're moving product and it's probably too small a seller. Maybe with a Neo speaker in it... |

I think my Steel King sounded far better than the Evans SE 200 or the Peavey Nashville 112 I bought and tried. That being said, I prefer my Risson STA to the Steel King and the Twin I own, but I think the Steel King was a great amp, especially since I prefer tube amps. I don't have to move it much and I agree it is heavy. |

I put a 1501-4 with a Neo magnet in mine. ...and it sounds great. Before that I had Rick Johnson build some cabinets so I could split the head and the speaker and that alone made it easier to carry around. This amp sounds great with my push-pull with amp reverb as the only effect. The only problem I've had with mine is 1 blown fuse. |

So far I've not had any problems with my FSK and used a 75 Session 400 for over 20 years before that. I've found it to have the best reverb and for country gigs I've used it with no other effects or only delay. I had an SE 200 and it never impressed me although the FET 500 was a lot better amp IMO. I'll be hanging on to mine. |

Hi Frank, re your Fet 500 (Evans) I have one too and won't ever sell it. Converted mine to a head/cabinet configuration. Sounds even better IMO because of more "breathing" space for the speaker on it's own. Mine's a 1985 and had it serviced fairly recently and the tec said it had some of the finest componest they'd seen They were expensive in their day, but I was lucky, I did it as a straight trade about 2 years ago for a Nashville 112 I had as a spare amp. I decided I "much" prefered a 15 inch speaker and the extra head/room. I also have a Nashville 400 also converted to head/cabinet configuration. That's and oldie and also a keeper. Sometimes I use the Evans head with the B/W speaker. Superb!!

Fender´s Steel Guitar heritage should be reason
enough to keep a few items, like the Steel King,in
production...I know the Steel market is small in
comparison to electric guitars, basses etc,and perhaps
Fender thought they were reaching out by launching
the Steel King in the first place, but really...
