I few weeks back while loading equipment I dropped my old MusicMan 212HD One Fifty and messed it up pretty bad. One of the speakers separated, one tube broke and another cracked. It wouldn't hardly get any sound at all so I took it to the repair shop.

I picked it up Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 25) and waited until last night for it's first gig.... While it was in the shop they replaced two capacitors and a couple of small things. For the speakers, I took them a couple of old Electo Voice 12 inchers I had in storage in the garage. These were the ones which had the magnets that were almost 12" wide themselves. Needless to say, this made the amp much heavier!

I took it to the gig last night, set up my equipment and when I turned it on I was totally astounded! I had the best clean tone(s) I think I've ever had in my life from any amp. Also, it was much louder! I did the gig with the amp only set on about 1 1/2...

I only played electric guitar on that gig but this week coming up it'll be used on a pedal steel & guitar gig. I can't wait as I'm so happy with the way it turned out! I normally use a Boss ME-50 pedal board but I wound up playing the last set with just the guitar plugged straight into the amp as it sounded so good!........JH in Va.

The speakers are going to be the huge difference in that amp. I've tried quite a few in mine and, while I recently loved the JBL D-131 I had in it, it had a short in the voice coil, so I removed it and used an old Altec 417-8b. Voila! Sounds beeootiful!

I have a pretty big selection of Fenders. Every now and then I plug my telecaster into one of my HD130 2-12 Musicman amps and I remember why I have not sold them. Tone-to-the-bone.

Mike, if I ever wanted to ship it down to Florida I don't think either of us could afford the shipping charges as it's so heavy........JH in Va.

Jerry.. Good point. We'd both need to take out a 2nd mortgage just to pay for the shipping. Those EVs are HEAVY but what a tone!! Have fun!!

Jerry,
Congrats on finding your tone ..... I really like those EV's ....They are very efficient speakers and they punch the mids and lows very nicely all while smoothing out the tone .... The HD 130 is a pretty brite amp and I'll bet those EV's smoothed that amp out very nicely ....Good for you !!!....Jim

PS...Now you can go to the gym and workout so you can lift that bad boy !!...
