The other night while we were doing the usual meet-n-greet after the show at The Blazin M Ranch, a gentleman came over and told me about the band he plays in out in Kansas. One of their members plays the LAPTOP steel guitar. I wanted to ask if it was a PC or a MAC.

If the guy had just said one of the members played a "Steel Guitar," what picture would have come to your mind? Confused

How would you have properly described the instrument he was playing? Question

I too have struggled with a proper description of a Steel Guitar that is played while laying on ones lap compared to a Pedal Steel Guitar. Smile

We have all heard it called a Steel without pedals, Steel Guitar, Lap Steel, Lap Steel Guitar, etc. Confused

In this world of being politically correct, which is right and proper, and by whose authority? Question

I must admit LAPTOP is a description I have never heard before for a steel guitar. I guess I do understand why PC & MAC came to mind. Laughing

I played at a black church awhile ago where the pastor yelled aloud over the mic for me to tear it up on "that board". I've had people comment on my "dulcimer" more than a dozen times. The only one that irritates me a little is when folks refer to it as a pedal steel, especially on liner notes of records I've played on. I love pedal steel, but c'mon... Muttering

I had a friend years ago, in the late 40s, who played the Merle Travis style, and he had a job at a local tavern on weekends.
He always used to say, "come on over, and bring your bread board"!! I never forgot that. Very Happy

A recent post either here on the Forum or, on eBay, possibly..........

Described a TABLE TOP g'tar with steel strings.

I suggested a few weeks back, a way for all of us to attempt to get our instrument of choice back on track. I was nearly burned at the stake. WHEW!
