Hey all,
In honor of the "Master of Masters" and to expose new players to Jerry Byrd's playing, I'm collecting every shred of video I can muster on the Internet and putting it one place

Good move, Josh. I'm surpised nobody's done this already, like myself..., or Ray, as it's long overdue, and very welcome.
There is indeed more out there that hasn't seen much light of day, and hopefully will in short order.
If there was anybody in the steel guitar world that there should be tons of to learn from and enjoy, it's JB. Sadly it's just the opposite with rather little currently viewable, and most of that is of mediocre quality, but something is better than nothing. |

Kudos to you for arranging this, Josh. Just a thought--I notice your refer to his tricone as a "dobro" in a couple of places. I think it's worth the distiction, as they really are two different instruments.
That is a dobro that he's playing with Marty Robbins.
Look forward to checking back. It would be convenient to have these all in one place... |

Thanks so much for all the encouragement to all who've responded above here, Ron, Richard, Scott and Tony.
To be honest, I wasn't at all sure how this would be received in the community, but in retrospect I'm really glad I went in this direction.
You guys have given me the push to get more up, and also, to correct some of the tricone/Dobro distinction that I admit I'm still learning about, being purely an electric player at the moment.
Thanks once again guys, I'll be devoting more time to this project on a weekly basis.
Also, if anyone knows the link to that old TV show where Byrd is joking around with the MC and then sits down at a console and plays with just a electric guitar backup, I've been dredging the depths of Youtube for it  (it's the vid with the timecode bar on the bottom)

Thanks for the contributions, it means a lot.
I was able to upload the Drifter 2a, as you've listed it--wow!
Wailana and Hilo March were extremely satisfying, the close-ups of Jerry's bar are just breathtaking to say the least!

Did you get the Pt.b as well ?
AND Have you noticed that he's playing a 7 string reso.?
When I produced an album for Shot Jackson's Wife, Donna Darlene, Shot told me about the reso he gave to Jerry, must be the same one. |

I only had time to upload and watch the 2a, but will spend time with the other part soon, probably tonite.
And thanks for the heads up on the 7 string reso, did not notice  , as I was literally staring in awe at the Hilo March close-ups of Jerry's bar control/technique, did not see the extra string.
Once again, thank you so much, it really means a lot to have support like this.

Ron......Just yesterday, I'd contacted my web master
about including an entirely new page within the JerryByrd-FanClub.com site.
We were taking rudimentary steps to accomplish this feat at this moment.
I don't want to be guilty of causing anyone to think that I'm trying to cut-into his/her project.
It did seem appropriate to have all that's JERRY BYRD in one location, rather than strung out all over the internet. That was and remains our thinking.
Congratulations to this gentleman for taking the initiative to get something happening. I would have done it long ago if only I had the savey to do that kind of stuff. |

My thoughts entirely. I myself was going to suggest that the two sites be linked until I read Ray's comments, which I echo. Thanks to both of you. I'm sure Jerry is happy about the efforts made on his behalf and how well people remember him. |

Mahalo's to all once again for the kind encouragement, I particularly enjoy the personal stories--like yours Doc--it has really given life to this project.
One of the cool things about doing this project has been that I've actually been learning so much about playing just from watching these videos--and knowing that others out there are doing the same thing!!
Jerry's spirit and Aloha is so strong--it's in everything he ever did (even the photo above!), it's fulfilling to play a small part in preserving and advancing his mission as we move deeper in to the digital medium.
On a side note, it seems that the Estrellita video has been taken down, but one member has graciously offered to snail mail a copy to me. I'll update as progress is made on the harder-2-find video specimens.
