I love that Lifton case, too!!!

I had a double-cutaway LP Jr new in 1959 - mine was a cherry red mahogany body; I'd love to have another!

This one is in wonderful condition!

So nice. A quintessential electric guitar, the jumping off point for great tone. If you haven't seen the footage of Mountain from their Woodstock performance...hands down Leslie West wins for guitar tone mojo.

Thanks for the comments !!! In a good economy, this would bring 10K. I hate to sell it due to it's sentimental value to me. My dad used to play it at church back in the "60s. It's probably the first guitar I ever played. It might look pretty good under someone's X-mas tree !!!

Thanks for the interest.

John,

Nice guitar and a bargain for the $$. Do you have the original bridge? I noticed it has been changed. Any headstock repairs, breaks or cracks? Is the original tone cap still in there?

Thanks,

Rich

Rich, I believe the bridge is the original. No headstock repairs, cracks, or breaks. The tone pot has been changed to a "69 vintage. That is as close to the "54 era that my Luthier could come up with. Yes it has some finish checking, and scratches on the back, but not too bad.

In that era, the bridge was just a stop tail piece as on a Les Paul Sr. of the day. This one has a compensated saddle but also has the offset bridge posts for the stop tail piece bridge. Confusing, that's why I'm thinking it has been changed. I'm pretty sure the compensated bridge wasn't used until much later in production.

In later guitars that used the compensated saddle bridge, the posts where much closer to equal distance from the nut.

Still, a really clean surviving example. I had one of these while in high school. Unfortunately it was stolen from our locked school band room while at I was in another class. (inside job)

Best,

Rich

Nice guitar indeed.Rich is correct though, the compensated bridge did not come out till 1961.
It must have been replaced somewhere along the way.

New Pics

Post by John Walden »

Just to be clear... I am not an expert on vintage guitars. I don't know when my dad bought this guitar. I remember in the mid '60s that this was his only guitar. He played in church. The circumstances of his purchase, I will never know. There has been some interest, here locally, as well, here on the Forum. So by request here are some more pics.

LP Jr

Post by Mike Thomas »

The bridge is a replacement. Probably from a 60's (SG shaped) LP Jr.

Still a great guitar. Repro bridges are cheap. I just got a '55 and the tone is beyond incredible.

Brian, I'm not too sure what hoops I would have to go through to make that happen. I'm not in any big hurry to let this guitar go, for the reasons I have mentioned in earlier posts. I received a PM from a guy in France who wanted it, and wanted me to send it to Canada as well. I would prefer a USA sale.
