Does anyone have any videos where the steel guitarist drops his bar, falls off his seat, the bass player whacks him in the face, the singer trips over him, or has some other spectacular misadventure ? There must be some around somewhere. Very Happy

I saw a japanese country band playing in Tokyo once. The steeler was drunker than anyone I've ever seen. I wish I had a video... It was hilarious. Shocked

I was playing steel at the Dallas club in Columbus,Ga. The lead guitar picker and the bass player both was really drunk, the guitar picker fell on the stage with his guitar around his neck and could not get up, He lay there and we continued playing, his friends came up and took him off stage, What a night that was, Shorty

Just a couple weeks back we were playing a rare two night stand in the same venue. I have a habit of rocking back and forth on my seat when the music moves me, and it must have been good because in the middle of the second night I rocked the thumbscrew right off the bottom of my seat and fell across the stage.
The fun part was my bandmates arguing over who would have to give me mouth-to-mouth.
I'd be perfectly happy if no video ever turned up.

Ok...I'll bite...

About 2:30 in....well you'll just have to see for yourself. Embarassed

This was a neighborhood impromptu jam at a birthday party for the Rogers Twins (Bernie and Boyd) from the California Western Swing Hall of fame. My case of "dropsy" really got the party started!

Check out "Don't Let Go" in the related videos for some great solos from some of the neighborhood "kids".

I've shared this before, a couple of years ago.....

The HECK HARPER band was all set up on one of those postage stamp sized band stands.......in the Local ELKS CLUB. The 11:00 PM thingie just ended and as Heck annouced the first song was going to be "Steel Guitar Rag"......by "ME".......I began feeling for the light weight fibre glass chair with the backs of my calves. Secure that the chair was where I'd left it when stood up, I lowered myself quickly, ready to play.

One of the four legs of the dinky chair slid off of the carpeted stage. As I sat down, shifting my weight rearward on the chair, it tilted backward and went over the edge, and I went like the contents of a dump truck.

All were expecting to hear my pick-up notes and thus turned to see why I wasn't plucking away. All they could see was the heels of my cowboy boots flailing
in the air.

SOME tho't it was funny. Some, hillarious! Some tho't I was drunk.........

I happened to tune into a show the other night because the title was truncated on the guide and I thought it was about Guy Clark but it was entitled "The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico." I tuned in just about the time the front man took his guitar and took the steel player out with 1 swing. Turns out it was a later day Spinal Tap in a country setting (actually was pretty entertaining but not as much as Rick's performance Smile ).

Rick, that's some great playing. It's always tough to get to those negative frets, though.

That is a classic funny moment Rick. Thanks for sharing. I couldn't help but notice the Montezuma's Revenge album being signed in the vid. I believe the guy signing the album name is Jim Soldi aka Bosco? Gary Francisco was the fiddle player for Montezuma. He is my buddys brother in law. I have jammed with Gary in the past. I have also attended Montezuma's reunion jams in San Diego. Small world.

Yeah Perry that's Jim Soldi alright. One of the greatest players around these parts or anywhere for that matter! That whole day was a day of San Diego royalty. I wish there was video of the earlier jam when the guests of honor were playing, but unfortunately the camera didn't show up till later. Bernie Rogers and Tommy Turman (the older gent playing guitar in Crazy) used to play in the top bands of their day with Jim's dad "Cactus' Soldi.
Bernie and Tommy were tearing it up on twin Jimmy Bryant tunes just like they did them in the 50's. I was honored just to be there hanging out with them!!!

Here's a link to our friend and forumite Gene Jones' tribute page to the Rogers boys.

No video but we were playing an outside gig on a flatbed trailer when the wind whipped up knocking our bass players amp over which then knocked him over right on top of the lead singers Taylor flat top smashing it into toothpicks.

I was playing at South by South West in Austin to a packed house at The Contiental Club with Johnny Dilks. We were right in the middle of Roly Poly when the cheapo Guitar Center piano seat I was using caved. I went ass over tea kettle all over the stage. The drummer for the next band came up with his drum throne for me but we were shook and the set never really recovered. Embarassed

This TV clip was shown years ago. In the early days of Town Hall Party in Compton, So. Calif. they had Leon McCauliff and his band on gthe TV show. Leon, who always stood up to play, started the Steel Guitar Rag and about the time someone said "Take It Away Leon" he got tangled up in the cords on the floor and fell flat on his rear end on the floor,

Rick,

Now that's funny, and you're a real trooper for sharing it with us. The steel guitar bloopers. BTW - I listened to the rest of the song and it was great playing. If we ever get the chance to play together, remind me not to set close to you, or wear my hard toed boots. Laughing
