I got some good news earlier this week. My band Bareback Jack took both The People's Choice Music Awards and The Buffalo Music Awards for Best Country Band. We performed at the People's Choice Awards. All heavy metal, blues, and rock bands. I had heavy metal and blues guys coming over to me after we played and asking me about the pedal steel and looking at the ZB Custom D-10. Very interesting. We have and continue to put alot of work into this project and it has paid off. I am very fortunate to play with some great players who are also professional. Full dress, rehearsed, and equipped to the max. Booked a year out. I'm doing everything I can here to keep country alive up here in Buffalo. Its getting better. There are now a number of quality places that have live bands. This took alot of effort to make happen. I wanted to thank all the forum members, even the ones that I have disagreed with for your discussions. Because of this forum I am playing the equipment that I have and getting the sound that I want. I grew up in Buffalo's backyard (Lockport), about a million years ago. Living close to the sticks (places like Newfane and Pendleton) must have done something for me to make me gain an appreciation for country, at least by midlife.

Club Infinity in Williamsville is number one. Our favorite places besides that are the road houses in the farm communities south of Buffalo. East Eden Tavern, JJ's Grill in Langford. These places are packed with young people who love country music on Saturday nights. |

Congratulations Kevin, it don't get much more Country than Eden, East Otto, Franklinville, or Collins. Good to know the fans are still there. |

I encourage everyone to try to find a band, an open mike night (even organize one) or church playing to get out there and play. The bar owners love open mike night because it brings in alot of the country musicians and makes money on an off night. Its a chance to meet other people that you might have never met. I just made contact for recording. Something that I'm looking forward to. [This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 21 November 2004 at 12:13 PM.] |

All the places I played in Buffalo are long gone. TNT Western Paradise, Schandras, Club Utica, Park Inn, Hamilton Lounge, Wonder Bar In Niagara Falls, Fangers and on and on. There used to be a lot of country music back then and places to play. We usually played a couple of years at a time which was great because we didn't have to move all the equipment. Good luck with your band. |

Those were great days Dan. I talk to some of the older players about them. Country (or what is referred to today as country) has had a definite resurgence in Buffalo. |

Congrats, worked in Buffalo from '75-'79. I remember the nice sit down gigs, especially the Club Utica. I also remember that they closed at 4am, and half the time my nose was hanging slightly above my strings. Is Tommy Bath still in town? |

Jon, Tommy Bath is my teacher. I just spoke with him tonight on some material. He has been a great resource to me for learning. Incredible player. Club Utica no longer exists. I heard stories about its hey day when people were lined up around the block. Now its like that at the Club Infinity in Williamsville. |

Neat, Tommy always blew me away. Played in his socks and flew over the strings effortlessly. Say Hi. |
