thanks man. I accidently flubbed a note at the end of my solo, so I flubbed another one so it would sound like I did it on purpose |

HI TONY,
I enjoyed your playing on these Hawaiian tunes.
You just need to smile more often, to let people know you are having a good time.

Tony,
You sound fantastic, very tastefully done, esp. the fills. The world needs more music like this!!!!
The lines you're playing look pretty challenging. Would love to know how you approach your solos/fills.
And....more importantly, what happend on the DOO WAH???
I'm sure inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks for sharing this,

Roger-Yea, I guess I look pretty serious up there. Point noted
Josh- Thanks! I read you thread about Barney Issacs Jr, and think it's admirable and impressive that you are transcribing his work. Can't wait to hear it!
How do I approach my solos...basicly, aside from keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best, I try to play within the spirit of the song, always keeping the melody in mind. When I solo, I just kind of start out with no clear cut idea of what i'm gonna do, but I always try to play within the melody.
As far as the "doo waa's go, I tend to use those very rarely, hardly at all these days. When I do use them, it is usually within a context of music that I feel is appropriate, like old country and western swing tunes. Even then, I use them very sparingly. I think there is a very fine line between using them tastefully, and using them as an effect/gimmick/crutch. For me, Jerry Byrd is someone who ALWAYS used the "doo waa's" tastefully.
Thanks to everyone for listening/feedback etc! |

Anthony,
In Naughty Hula Eyes at the end of your solo, you do a Doo Wah , then you guys looked like you were laughing at some inside joke ... maybe????
Anyway, again I really enjoyed your solos (in fact, I didn't want to hear any of the other instruments do solos 'cept yours --anyone else no what I mean???)
As to the Barney Isaacs "project", it's just something that I keep returning to, learning a lick here and there, transcribing an intro, etc. Mostly for inspiration..

yea, I did do a "doo wah" at the end of my solo on "Naughty Hula Eyes." It seemed like a good idea at the time. What I mean by that is, when I did it, I accidentaly opened up on my volume and it got REALLY loud for a second. I like to keep a little overhead for sustain etc, and what you witnessed was a very poorly executed "doo-wah." |

Hey Tony.
That was great. I also checked out some of the other stuff, and love the way you do Sand. Is that neck tuned to B11? Good to see that you're back out there in good form.
