I believe that the best tone is relative to your “what else is happening right now”
I think I can best describe this with this story
________________________________________________________________________

Long, long ago in another time the cave men and women were holed up in a cave by predators during the day.
The cave people decided that it would be much safer to venture out at night for food.
As soon as it was dark enough most of the cave men went out of the cave and into the night to hunt.
They had not gone far before they heard the sound of something coming very fast toward them through the Jungle. Since they had never heard this particular sound before they waited until the sound got very close and then of course it was too late and several of the cave men were killed and the rest run back to the cave.
The next night after a long debate about the sound they heard, they ventured out again to hunt and sure enough they heard a sound coming through the jungle at them and they argued with each other if it was the same sound they heard the night before. This of course delayed their decision to run long enough to get several of them killed.
They were desperate for food so the next night after a long debate about the sound they heard, decided they would instantly turn and run at first notice of a sound.
They had not gotten far from the cave when they heard a sound of something coming at them through the jungle and they instantly turned and ran but in so doing they trampled over each other, some where running in the wrong direction and none made it back to the cave before the sound was right on them.
The cave men reconciled themselves that they were all going to die when they notice that this sound was made by a very large plant eating animal.
They, with little problem killed the animal and dragged it back to the cave and cooked it.
They then sat around the cave fire with very full stomachs arguing about who was the bravest, bragging as they embellished to impress their women of the events and sounds of the last three nights.
They without exception all agreed that the sound they heard on this night had the best tone.

Bo....

There is more to this story...
Since they all agreed the sound they heard was a helpless herbivore, they once again ventured out at night for another hunting expedition. This time when the sound got closer they held their ground only to be surprised by the sight of a meat eating denizen. They of course were all killed leaving the cave women to ponder their fate. The women upon venturing out to find their den mates and discovering their remains could only state in quiet and somber words...."Now there's tone to the bone"

Moral.......Tone only happens at the moment you hear it. Whoa!
