112 is now happily on the bench with Marc Schoenberger at National Guitar Repair. He and Don Young gave her the once over yesterday and pronounced her to be in good health, and in great shape for her age!
Interestingly Marc told me today on the 'phone that the diamond holes had at one time mesh behind them, there are traces and solder on the back of the holes, so Don will be replacing that and making two small solder seam repairs at the same time. I believe that at least one other 'diamond holes' has been observed with mesh. Marc also told me that the T piece and tuners are not original although the cones may well be.
Mahalo to Michael for bringing her to our attention!

#112 has finally been pronounced as good (or better than )new by Marc and Don and arrived in Canada today. I heard that Don Young liked her so much that when Marc finished setting her up , Don borrowed it back to play, copy for himself(?) and for a photo session with some Hula girls at Nat reso..
I've asked for copies of any pics and if any ever come my way I'll post them here and at notecannons.
I picked her up from the post-office today, and just brought her home and tuned her up. She shimmers, the attack is less brash than a production tri-cone, and really mellow. I don't know what Marc strung her with, but in low bass G tuning and with original non-spiral cones and wooden well, there is almost a dobro type overtone to the notes. No wonder Rudi and John D put them into production, I still think the whole concept was that of genius.. I'm in love..!
Thanks Michael, Marc, Don....
Ps Lenny at his Vintage Nationals site has some pics of the inside of an old National Sq neck's construction with the fingerboard off, apparently Marc has one with no back or front, just the side(!!). I've never seen 'inside' the neck of one before, and was quite amazed. Go take a look... Now I know why so many have screws through the back of the neck!
