Bill Dyet needs to be on here as well, from the WWVA Jamboree's Smokey Bleacher.

Shame on me for not remembering Arthur Soles, and his half-brother René (their mother had an illicit liason with a man selling onions off a bicycle, but that's a story for another time), from Muckle-In-The-Midden, Herefordshire, UK

They were the original pioneers of pedal steel guitar manufacture, years before their time

With the influence of French blood coursing through his veins, René somehow converted the gearbox from a Citroen 2CV into a pedal steel changer mechanism, and Arthur, because he worked on an cider apple farm, and therefore was deemed to have an incisive knowledge of all thing arboreal, had plenty of wood to make the rest of the steel.

The rest, as they say, is history.....

This was a 'top of the head recall'

A good suggestion might be to simply go to the "Steel Guitar Hall of Fame" for starters.

Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame

Then for all the work you'll want to do in a lifetime, you can use this next site to fill up a mulitude of folks.

Steel Guitar Organizations

Hope that helps :)

Unless I missed it, Hank DeVito is missing.

I'd add Gerry Hogan. And J.B. Crabtree. Doug Beck.

And...I HAD to have missed it -

NO ONE mentioned Chuck Campbell??

I know Joe Savage, Les Swanson, Curt Olson, Al Udeen (sp?) and Jerry Dube received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota Rock/Country Hall of Fame. And well deserved too!

There could be others, but I don't know for certain.

I have to go along with Alan Brooks. I don't quite get the purpose of this list but did anyone mention Jerry Garcia?
