As some of you might know, Judge George D. Hay the originator or the Grand Ol' Opry is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Va. Each year in October the Virginia Country Music Association (VCMA) holds a wreath laying ceremony at his grave site to honor him and his contributions to country music. this event has taken place annually for almost 40 years.

This year's event will be on Sunday October the 11th at 2:00 PM. The service will be conducted by Rev. Lamarr Sentel who has been in charge since it's inception! Rev. Sentel has a bunch of great stories he tells of past events which were attended by some of Nashville's finest. People like Tex Ritter, Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl, Stonewall Jackson, Charlie Louvin and others who actually knew Judge Hay have been in attendence. Rev. Sentel even tells of the time that Tex Ritter gave his heart to Jesus at the gravesite........

In past years we've had some acoustic music after the service and stories but last year we tried doing an electric show and it worked well with a high powered battery rig for the PA and a couple of amps. This year we'll have Tee Meroney on flattop & vocals, Garland Abbott III on bass & vocals, Russell Williford and myself on lead guitar(s), and my wife Kay on vocals. If you're in the area we know you'd enjoy this event......Thanks, JH in Va.

It's happening tommorrow! Also, the founder of the VCMA (Charlie Taylor) has Judge Hay's old whistle that he used to open the Opry broadcasts with and will have it with him!........JH in Va.
