Random question...has anybody on the forum ever played a PSG through a Groove Tubes amp? I have always been interested in picking one up for my guitar rig...but suddenly I now have ANOTHER instrument to worry about! Now I don't mean to reopen any of the Peavey vs. Fender debates and all that good stuff that I have been reading. Just mostly curious about the Groove Tubes specifically...
Thanks all!

I've always thought that they would make a nice medium volume pedal steel amp. I think you can use 6550's in them. They're PC board amps, but they seem to be well built. Stick a JBL in, a 12AY7 in front, 6550's for power, bias it properly and it would probably have quite a lot of headroom. There's one on eBay now. It's in Mass. so if it doesn't sell (I bet it won't), you might be able to try it out and possibly get a good deal on it.

Hey Cartwright!
Exactly the item I was looking at! I'll shoot him an email now. It amazes me that i've been playing guitar for almost 20 years (guitar, not PSG) and I still know so little about amps and the technical side of this craft in general! Oh, well - thank god for the forum I guess!

I had a Soul-O-75 ( I think that was what it was called ) & could not keep it from overheating -
I tried everything including a bigger fan, different tubes, different bias settings, 3 pro amp tech's worked on it & no luck with it. I finally ended up trading it after I sunk a lot of $$$ in it.
I even sent to to Dereck Truck's amp tech - he kept it for 6 mos & sent it back - he sells tubes all over the world & just scratched his head with it..
No more of them for me - sorry.
Maybe I had a lemon, I do not know but I will stay with my blackface & silverface Fender amps for the tube tone I want .. Ron

"Tone is in the hands. Unless your wife will let you buy a new amp. Then it's definitely in that amp."
We need to turn the TWANG up a little
It's not what you play through, it's what you play through it.
They say that tone is all in the fingers...I say it is all in your head

the value of friendship. Old friends shine like diamonds, you can always call them and - most important - you can't buy them.
