New Clip of the Week 09/27/09

Post by Walter Stettner »

Sorry for being late today, but I just got home from a great day trip. Bueautiful Indian Summer weather with warm sunshine and a cool breeze.

This week's clip takes us back to 1967 here it is:

Enjoy the music!

The singer sounds like Connie Smith to me.. then I will guess that it is Weldon Myrick on Steel

Connie Smith is the singer, but the steeler is not Weldon - that would have been too easy!

I assumed Weldon Myrick had done all the steel on Connie Smith's records. Based on the beautiful harmonics, could it be Buddy Emmons?

I once crossed paths with Doug Jernigan backing Connie Smith and that is as close as I can get.

The steel player is our fellow forumite Mr. Russ Hicks who recorded a few sides with Ms. Connie in those days. :)

Wow! How wrong one can be. Beautiful steel work, Russ. Crystal clear. A very tasteful intro. I, too, took for granted that it had to be Weldon.

:D

My guess for singer was Connie, also, but my thoughts were possibly Jimmy Crawford on steel.
