I had the pleasure to listen to and meet Neil Flanz playing with Alvin Crow this Friday when I took a little road trip to Austin.

Here is Neil with the Band, and let me say if you are not familiar with Alvin Crow, he is both a Texas and Austin legend. Plus, Neil really compliments the band with his steel work (both necks) and Alvin was giving Neil plenty of steel breaks on each number!

I first had to opportunity to hear Alvin back in 1978 at the Spoke when I had moved to Austin for a spell and it is great to be able to come back to Austin after 20 years (left in 1989) and hear him play.

The Austin skyline and traffic have really changed and I was somewhat disoriented upon cruising into town getting caught up in all the traffic and areas of spaghetti bowl freeway flyovers and flyunders. But it is so nice to come back to the Broken Spoke, the one place that has seemed to survive the cultural clash associatied with all the urban cappuccino drinkers that have moved to town. I started to feel a little better that the Spoke and real from-the-heart country music
can still be found.

Heres a few photos:

What a line-up as you can see on the sign!

And there is plenty of cool stuff both inside and out

The next evening I saw Herb Steiner playing in Uhland TX about 20 mile south of Austin, but I will have a separate post on that!

Neil gives a mean lesson and records it for you.
This is a must do if in Austin.
If your not in, or going to Ausin....
You need to sit yourself down and give yourself a good talking to. ^_^
