What a show!!!
Folks, if you weren't there, you really missed out on the best show I've heard since the Brian Sklar show at the last Dallas show.
I'm talking about "Roger Edgington and his band".
These guys have their songs nailed down with everything you could ask for.
I'm talking about excellent rides by every instrumentalist, and then they will blow you away with instrumental three part harmonies that would make Bob Wills sit up and take notice.
The tone of every player was spot-on.
Roger is a premier player at the western swing style and is the most humble man you will ever meet.
His Zum steel guitar was so smooth, clear and full of that wonderful western swing tone that we all love to hear.
The lead guitar played on a Fender Telecaster and proved that you don't need a Gibson to get that fat western swing and big band tone.
The Fiddler had the best live sound on stage that I have ever heard and his playing was perfection to say the least.
All three of these players have mastered their instruments and they blessed us with the best music I have heard in a long time.
Let us not forget the rhythm section. The Bass guitar player and the Drummer presented a rhythm bed worthy of any session players I have worked with. They kept everything perfectly tight throughout the show.
Thank you ( Roger and the Band ), for coming to our show and giving us the best show to date.
Next time the band comes down, we hope they can bring their singer, as he is great.

Note: Roger Edgington and his Band have a new CD out that covers everything.
It covers a lot of musical styles and its really done well. You need this one in your collection.
It has a lot of great licks we should all learn to play.
Contact Roger on the forum for a "CD".

Amen, So Mote It Be, You Got That Right... anything you want to say in praise of this great group of pickers.

I wasn't at the show, but I've filled in for Roger with this band and I can vouch for everything Brother Billy has said.

The name of the band is Billy Mata and Texas Tradition. Billy is a great singer who knows the good stuff. And my old Bandolero compadre Richard Helsley on fiddle is of the great San Antonio tradition of being not only a great swing/Tommy Jackson-style fiddler but also a serious violinist (much like Bobby Flores, for example).

Roger gave me an advance copy of their new album, and when it hits the marketplace you forumites that like traditional country and western swing (what few of y'all there are here ) would do yourselves a great favor by getting a copy from Roger.

Amen to that Billy. That was a great show and you are right about the lead guitar; I could hear Eldon Shamblon's influence on the Bob Will's numbers. The group interaction was so smooth and I loved the close harmony.

Man, I'm sorry I missed this one, but I was making hay because the sun was shining.

On behalf of our band I would like to thank Patty and Billy Phelps,Jody Sanders and everyone else at the Southeast Texas Steel Meeting. We all enjoyed coming over and meeting everyone and do a little playing too and of coarse listening to my good friend Bobby Bowman. Our leader,Billy Mata wanted to come along, but was celebrating his parents 50th anniversary. It's nice to play for a warm receptive crowd that actually listens to what you play.

As already mentioned, our new CD is out.You guys got the first ones out of the box. I'll post later how they can be ordered for those that would like one. It covers songs from Bob Wills,Johnny Bush,Conway Twitty,Jerry Jeff Walker,Frenchy Burke,Less Paul and Mary Ford,Perry Como, and Nat King Cole.

Thanks again for a great time.
Roger

I would like to say a word about the band members that I am very proud to work with and how long we have been with Billy now.

Rocco Fortunato drums 14 yrs
Jim Cleckler bass 12 yrs
Richard Helsey fiddle 10 yrs
Roger Edgington steel 10 yrs
Chaney Rutherford guitar 1 1/2yrs

We like to tease Chaney about being 10 years old when Rocco started with Billy. I'm sure most of you on the forum know how difficult it is to find really good pickers that all get along and keep them together any length of time.

I have to agree with Billy & Jim, Roger and the band put on a great show, those that were not there sure missed a great day. To put it mildly we were in hog heaven. Thank Jody, Billy, Patty for bringing this band to the jam.
