When I was first getting started w/lap steel Al gave me some tips and suggestions and told me about E6 and how he played in Arizona back in the day. We emailed a few times and he was always encouraging and helpful. I always liked looking at his band pics from the old days and his Vega.
Thanks Al

Tommy and I send our condolences to the family of Al Marcus. As others have already noted, he was a gentle and kind man. We will miss him.

I know of no one more dedicated to the steel guitar than Al. We talked quite a bit but never met in person.
That's the way friendships that are so meaningful are developed in life. Many great friends have never net face to face and I have many of those myself.
Now you can pick it up Al and show them how it is done. The body is in great shape again and the mind is fresh. KNOCK "em OUT friend.

I'm so sorry to hear those sad news. Al was the kindest of men and like the granpa of us all. He'll be sorely missed.

The steel-guitar world is darker with the passing of Al, who was a genuine Icon who plowed some of the first furrows in our business.
Al spent much of his time in recent years encouraging, complimenting, and building-up the confidence of all who played the steel-guitar.
I pray that God will find favor with his efforts in this life.

Rest In Peace Dear Friend
What a shock this is, we've been in touch via email and telephone for years just recently heard from him via email......
Al will always be in my prayers and he will always be Chairman of the Board of this Forum...My heart goes out to his loving family...God Rest his sweet soul Forever.....A steel guitar Pioneer indeed.

Last night when I got to the job I heard the news and a special e-mail confirmed this
morning that Al had passed away. It was my good fortune to live only a thirty minute
drive from Al house. And over the past few years he was always open to an occasional Thursday visit.
What a blessing for me. Al was always willing to share his many life experience with me.
I found Al to be the kind of person you always want to have as a friend. He was young at heart, up beat and totally in love with his wife, he said many time he had been blessed with the best wife and the look in his eyes said even more. Family was important to Al and it showed.
I will miss you Al, all my life I wanted a friend like you, and it was worth the wait.

I have been trying to find the appropriate words but could not. Al and Jody were my two reality checks here on the Forum. They both knew of my writings way back when we were all young guys, new to this steel guitar world. While there are many names in my history, Al was always very close to my heart. His sincerity came through like a new full moon rising into a dark night. Like so many others in this thread, I am surely going to miss him.
BTW for Joey Ace: My thanks for the picture as it really tells a story. I still recall the picture you posted of Harry Hess when he left us. That little boy riding in the wagon was so close to my childhood, it sent shivers up my back. Again, Thank You !!
Regards, Paul

What a terrible sad loss of a wonderful man. Al always was supportive of me in my times of need and he always was more than happy to offer comfort and nice words to anyone in need! Al was probably one of the most liked and loved members here on the forum if not number one!!!! I never heard Al say one single negative word here on the forum actually I meant read one word.
I will miss Al and his nice words and lovable demeanor. I can only imagine the loss the family is feeling at this time. May the good Lord take Al to his wonderful peaceful and happy reward in grand fashion!!!

I am saddened to hear this, what a loss of a wonderful guy. I never met Al in person but we were internet friends for quite some time as a result of this Forum. Al and I would communicate now and then by Email and it was always a pleasure to hear from him.
Please know our prayers and thoughts are with Al's family .
