I have today installed a new Alumitone in my Carter SD10. The first thing I discovered was how powerful this pick-up was - I had to reduce my pre-gain by three notches from where I normally have it set - its really punchy. I found that all my controls had to be drastically changed. I've had to reduce the bass quite a lot and up the treble an awful lot. The slight shrillness that I found with the E66 has vanished and has been replaced with a softer punchier more acceptable overhaul sound. I've spent about three hours messing with the controls - so early days yet. I've no gigs for the next two weeks so I'm not able to put it to the ultimate test. I'll keep you updated as I mess around with it. So far I'm quite happy with the overhaul performance. |

What amp are you using? I've been toying with the idea of getting an Alumitone for my GFI, but I'd really like something with less output, not more! _________________ Primitive Utility Steel |

I'm really liking the Alumitone. What I tell everybody is that I found that the biggest adjustment was my brain and my right hand. It has a different feel, and after a few days you adapt to it, and then can really hear what it sounds like. In the end, my settings didn't change all that much, but at first I was turning knobs like crazy.
I'll have to go back at some point to re-try some others that I have liked, but for now the Alumitone is a really unique and surprisingly great sounding pickup in my guitar.

Hi Brad. If you are using a 112 can you give me your settings I've had to make drastic changes to my settings. Also, is it OK to solder both the black/white and green wires together going to the input jack? |

Thanks Roger. By the way does it matter which way the pick-up is facing is there a front and back ? Thanks again. James. |

James,
the pickup orientation shouldn't matter at all, although I think mine has the little transformer side facing the bass strings. I haven't used a NV112 for steel in a while, so I'm really not the one to offer tone setting suggestions on that amp as used with an Alumitone. But I'm sure plenty will be able to chime in on that.
Best,
Brad |

I use a 112 at home for practice and i realy did'nt have to change much with the Alumitone, maybe backed off the lows some but that was about it. At the St louis conv. i saw where they were turning the presence and mids all the way off and just using the shift, HIs, and lows, so i tried it when i got home and so far i like it. They said it was something Paul F was doing with his. |

Thanks Roger and Brad for that information. Yes Brad, mine is facing the same way.I find the bass response quite overpowering that's why I enquired about the orientation. I'll go back and fiddle about some more. Thanks again for the help guys. |
