Derby Room

Post by Don Lampley »

First I would like to thank Margit and all the staff of Derby also all the people involved in getting this together. Then I would like to thank all the players and singers that I got to play behind great music. All in all a great time had by me looking forward to next year again thanks.

Many thanks to Derby...................

Thanks to your fine room, I once again had the rare opportunity to get to speak with and shake hands with one of my life-long steel guitar icons...
BILLY ROBINSON.

I longed to hear his old Decca solo's with Red Foley, back in the late 1940's-early 1950's.......but I guess that's 'ancient history!'

JERRY BYRD told me I was stuck in a time warp.....and that might be true, but those were the heydays of real steel guitar.

Ray: We enjoyed the Derby room too! But I have a complaint to make. Roy & I see you post on the forum all the time & never once have we met you! Here we were all at the convention and didn't even meet. Can you explain how that happened?

As for a time warp, Roy & I are happy to remain there until we go to a better one in heaven. Laurie

I have been having cumputer problems,so i haven't
been able to post.
I would like to thank Margit Stepp,Danny Hammers,
Lynn Owsley,Billy Robinson and Ron Elliott and the
rest of the Derby staff, for the oppurtunity to play
in the Derby room.It was a lot of fun.But it was also sad because,Charles was not sitting in his usual spot, and i missed his smile. He always made everyone so welcome. He is greatly missed by all. But,i know his legacy will live on through his great Derby steel guitar, and his family and friends. I know it was hard for Margit but,i hope she found some comfort in being there. We were all so proud she was there and, held up good as she did.Charles would have been proud of her(and is)because his spirit was there with us.
It was great to have Mrs Hazel in the Derby room.
she made things a little bit brighter. We know it
was also hard for her this year.
I want to thank the guys in the band for their
help. Thanks guys for putting up with me.To Chris
Castle, great show.It was good to see and hear you
play."You are our future".Keep on pickin'.Chubby
Howard also did a great job.I really do like his
unique Derby steel. All the other steel players did a great job also.
On behalf of Brenda and me,thanks to Margit Danny,Lynn,Billy,Ron,Bob,Carl and the rest of the Derby staff for letting us be a little part of this.

regards,Joe&Brenda
