Specifically, I have some .WAV files I'm trying to import into Cakewalk from the Tascam DP-01 hard disk recorder. It starts importing, then says it doesn't "recognize" them. The Tascam specifically says it will work with Windows XP, the Cakewalk Guitar Pro says how to import; I have tried adding the ".WAV" suffix to the files, it's surely some pissy little tweaky thing like that - or open some screen and click something from "off" to "on" but I don't know where? There's nothing to do on the Tascam, it's got to be in the computer. Any ideas would be appreciated... I've already got the "Buy a dobro and go live in the swamps" conceptual solution under advisement... |

.wav file types have been one of the most ubiquitous audio formats ever used. Every version of Windows has recognized them as has every audio editor I have ever seen. If Cakewalk doesn't recognize your wave files, maybe they are corrupted.
Try to import one of the standard wave files that ship with Windows, like "tada.wav," one of the basic audio event sounds. These are located in C:\Windows\Media\.
If the Windows wave file imports properly, but the Tascam wave won't, it must have become altered and is missing hidden data needed to identify it properly. Try playing those files in Windows Media Player. If it can play them, try re-saving them to your hard drive, under new names, as .wav files. Maybe this will fix any anomalies. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

To add to what Wiz has posted. Copy one of the song files from the Tascam directly to the hard drive in the PC. Then try to play it with the Windows Media Player and see if it will play. If it plays OK, check to make sure it's listed on the hard drive as a wav file. Then import that into Cakewalk. I have Cakewalk Sonar 8 and the import part of the program that you have is probably the same as what I have (without some options). |

Hey Thanks! This really worked, I'm always amazed when technology does for the first time (MY first time....) I can't go straight from Tascam->Cakewalk, but the "C" drive middleman thing worked. I'm working on upgrading my own backing tracks, and though I've been using a computer to earn money for over a decade, I only learn the bare minimum to get what I want - I'm a bad geek. |
