For those of us who couldn't make it to St. Louis, how about some pictures?

Doesn't look any different than the last time you were here, except a lot of the regulars are missing. I'm sure the same old worn out songs will be played on the main stage too, except for a couple of new players.

Also, for some reason there's a ban on phones in the main hall, doesn't make sense to me. Some folks have jobs that require contact occasionally, it's pretty inconvenient to have to go across the street to my hotel to check for messages. Maybe I can at least take in the Jazz show, that's really the only reason I'm here anyway.

If Emmons was there and played "Way to Survive" would you put that in the "worn out" category?

I don't have problems with 10 different versions of a song - it lets me hear the individual styles.

There's just not much you can do different to "Way To Survive", but Buddy always seemed to have something new to add to his set, most of the regular players up here don't. It seems they never play anything different, although they must know hundreds of songs. If I want to hear the same old stuff, I can save a lot of money and just play the CD's at home.

Yeah Hook, I'm kind of disappointed, it's getting really expensive to do this convention, CD's are much cheaper.

I guess I always find something to complain about, but next year will probably find me right here again.

If I was at the show right now, you would probably find me hangin' out in the Jackson room, since I'm a future Jackson steel player/owner, or you'd find me in the main hall, checkin' out steels and talkin' to all my buddies. I'd be in between listenin', checkin' out steels, and hangin' out with my buddies. I'd love to see pictures myself.

This is my 2nd year in a row to miss the convention. I like saving my money so I can go to Florida in the winter and hear Jack Stoner play "A Way to Survive"

Hey guys, here's some pics. As a first timer, it's great - Steel Guitar Disneyland no doubt!

Hall of Fame Inductees included Ron Elliot, Barbra Mandrell, and Bud Carter - the ceremony was really nice and from the heart.

For those of you who don't know Bobby Caldwell is sick and in the hospital, so they made a skype phone call through a lap top and fed the audio over the PA and had a mic hooked up for Scotty and co. to talk to Bobby Caldwell from the stage, that was touching - love fest indeed.

Some highlights for me included the Doug Jernigan E9 workshop and his performance in the Jazz Room today. Jim Cohen had a very nice set today on the main stage. Larry Sasser's Zum Hybrid has tone to the bone. There was a pretty killer Jam in the Fulwaka Room last night with Leona Williams singing, I wasn't familiar with the steel player, but he was killing it. Tasty tasty.

Post ceremony Norman Hamlet and Mike Jones played a nice set. Seeing Norman Hamlet play Swingin Doors is rad - no matter how many times you guys have heard it - sorry, for newbies like me, it's really satisfying.

Tonight the main event was a Tom Brumley tribute featuring Curt Shoemaker, Larry Sasser, Doug Jernigan, and Russ Hicks. They would play a Brumley instrumental in a unison wall of steel then moved down the line playing 2 songs each with a vocalist. It was really great, I think that and Ron Elliots set on Friday night were the playing highlights for me personally.

Craig - Al Perkins was awesome he tore the house down with his take on Cream's version of "Crossroads" on lap steel - can't believe I forgot that in my reference to "highlights" of the show - there was just too much good to remember.

Brett - no pictures inside the Jackson room, sorry man, but there was some good stuff going on in there. They had the TC Furlong amps on demo, which I didn't get to try personally, but they look really interesting, the one he makes now loaded with the Sarno Revelation pre amp specifically. The Jackson's are really nice instruments in person.

b0b - email me or facebook me and I'll post the 40 or so pictures I took of the show up somewhere.

Wish I had read the sign going in to the ballroom more carefully.... all I saw was "ABSOLUTELY NO CAMERAS" - the word video was hidden behind another sign in my line of view, hence no pictures of the Friday night concert.

Ditto about Al Perkins...wish I got a pic of him but I did record him! Crossroads is KILLER!!!
It made the convention worthwhile for me otherwise it was huge dose of same old, same old.
Anyway, here's a couple of pics:

It was a strange convention. Fran was at the Jeffran booth for a while on Saturday. Hazel Helms was in the Derby room selling Don's CD's and books. The vendors were pretty well packed up by about three today and there were only a few folks left in the main hall for most of the afternoon's performers.

I heard a lot of people say that the March Dallas show is the bigger steel show. I think I'll go to that show next year instead of St. Louis. There was a real Texas flavor at this show with Johnny Bush and Leona Williams appearing.

I did catch David Hartley's Mullen room appearance Saturday night. Scotty got up after a couple of songs and said the players are booked into 2011 for the main stage but if he could get him on sooner he would.

Heading home tomorrow morning.
