Great Turn-out in Kansas City

Thanks to all who attended our Kansas City Steel Guitar Jam on Saturday. Former Kansas Citian Jack Stoner was in town and we all decided to get together at 64th and State Line Rd.

Steel Players Lee Horgan (and wife) from Topeka, Greg Liaben, Ray Uhl, Daryll Logue, Bob Simons, David Williams also joined us. Plus we had many visitors stop in to watch. I know I probably forgot to mention everyone.

Bill Holiman was not able to make it and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his wife Esther. Bill was hospitalized with chest pain. He had an operation to put in a stent. I hear he is recovering but still experiencing some discomfort, etc. Bill is always one of the first to show up at these get togethers and we sure missed him.

If anyone is interest in keeping posted on Kansas City Area steel guitar events, send me an email and I will keep you posted.

Many of us will also be going to St. Louis to the convention and look forward to another great time meeting old and new friends at the convention!

PS, Jack Stoner brought a few dozen little Crown Royal bags to give out for holding picks and stuff. So we had free Crown Royal (bags only) in the back.



No... Jack is not responsible for emptying the bags, they came that way courtesy of his daughter who has store contacts.

Also Tom Anderson brought deli sandwiches, snacks, potato salad for us. Roger Hurst brought a big cooler of sodas and brownies. Thanks Guys!

I had to 'bug out' early, but had a swell time
pickin' a few and hearing everyone else.
It was great to, at long last, meet Jack Stoner.
I think Jack moved away about the time I moved in.

Everyone, thanks for a great jam. It was nice to meet some old friends again, and to meet some new ones.

Too bad Russ had to leave early, I wanted to steal his licks.

Roger's new Zum is a beauty and and plays and sounds the same way.

Thanks to Ray Uhl for bringing his steel for me to play. Just have to figure out all the knee levers.

This was the first time I've got to hear Bruce pick in many years. The last time I heard him he was filling in for Nelson Stoneking at the old Club 95.

Colm, looks like a great meeting that you guys had. Glad to see that the steel guitar is alive and well. These meetings that we have are a lot of fun and you get to meet some great players and some great people who still love steel guitar. Its a lot of work but when you enjoy it, work becomes pleasure! I'm glad my friend and Co-Founder of the Florida Steel Guitar Club got a chance to show you guys what he can do.

He is a great player and I have learned everything I know on the C6th neck from Jack.

I'm sure he was itching to play after being away from his Franklin for almost a month.

I also extend a hearty welcome to any of you if you are in the Tampa or Orlando area.
We are only about an hour northwest of those cities.

Jack I'll see you in St. Louis next Saturday.

Sure was nice to see Jack Stoner again, and he sounded great as well.

I was disappointed. I asked Jack to leave those hot licks on my steel, but guess what? When I played it that night, they were all gone. Oh, well, I'll get them back from him at ISGC this weekend.

Jack plays very well a I always enjoy our visits when he gets to town.

Also, many thanks to ALL those envolved with our local club. The way the musician business is going, our jams are about all that are left.
