No More Steel on Roy Clark Show

Just my 2 cents worth, but as a country music fan, I'm always let down when I see a country show and there is no steel guitar in the band. Good luck in the future Bob

What is he thinking. I have heard people call him Mr country music. yea right. No steel no country in my book.Its one of the frist things I check out if there is a steel in the band. No steel !!!! Just wanted to say I too have sent Roy and e-mail and hope that it might help. I agree if we don't let these folk's know how we feel about psg in our music then it will surely die and that just can't happen

Bob , sorry to hear about you're job. Keep one thing in mind. Nothing is ever as bad as it seems. I personaly wouldn't walk across the street to hear Roy Clark, but I would walk 5 miles to hear Roy Clarks steel player.

So sorry to hear about this. I have been waiting for you guys to get close enough to my area so I could come hear you. Now, if there's not going to be any steel in the show, I wouldn't walk in out of the rain to hear it!

You're too great of a player to be out of it for long. You'll be with another band before you know it!

I also just sent my email to Roy Clark him to please reconsider. Pedal steel guitar is a primary instrument to country music (not Les Paul guitars).

I as well sent an E-Mail to Mr. Clark. I doubt if it will make a difference, and even if it would, when will the next ax fall?. Sort of makes ya gunshy. Folks such as yourself and Herby not working is beyond words or thoughts PERIOD !!! where do the rest of us fit in? far-far down the players list thats for sure. Better things are yet to come. Guys, I really appreciate the support. I wasn't posting this thing looking for sympathy or anything. Fact of the matter, I'm relieved it's soon gonna be over. One more person is supposed to be let go, according to the bandleader. I'm interested in seeing who it is. I don't like to see anyone lose their gig, especially me, but I'm interested in seeing who else gets the axe. We leave Thursday for 18 days on the road. I can't wait to sit on the bus and smile at him. I'm not a bit worried. I'll find work. I think this darn ship was sinking, anyway. I really do appreciate the kind things all you guys said. You don't know how much it means to me.

I will not watch or listen to R. C. any more. I go to hear a band and when the wife and I walk in and there is no steel I tell her lets go we are not staying hear. No steel we don't stay.No steel means it is not country and that is what I want to hear. Merle Rcord a good freind of mine said and I agree with him if I have to play country rock I rather not play at all.What we have to do is boycott these bands that don't use a steel in it.I have seen two lead players and no steel. To me that is crazy put a steel where that second lead guitar is.They try to make a lead sound like a steel but they never will.

bobby, this is got to be the biggest bunch of crap i've ever heard...two fiddles and no steel??? that's un-american!!! all jokes aside i really hate to hear that for you, you are one of the greatest player's around...and a super nice guy...our music has really been taking a beating lately..steel has become a token instrument it seems, i don't even listen to radio much anymore..it's really bad..rascal flats?? a country group?? come on!! oh well it's all about money anyway...sorry bob...see ya..BA

who just play steel a chance they always
made me feel like dirt as a steel player

For years I've been hearing people accuse Buck Owens of destroying the Country side of "Hee-Haw" for leaving Roy Clark to host the show himself. I never felt that way towards Buck, but when Roy Clark cannot keep a steel guitar on his stage, then he will soon start looking just as bad as Buck did when he quit "Hee-Haw". It makes a man wonder if Buck saw something dying and decided to get out before it got ugly. Comments anybody? Best of luck to you, Mr. Bob!

I remember back in the 70's I went to Mr.Lucky's in Phoneix,AZ to see Ray Price. I expected to see Buddy Emmons.I paid at the door and listened for a couple of songs, He had his Fiddles, but NO Steel. Imagine that! I did not stay long and left. No steel , and I'm out of here........al

After being completely out of any paying-jobs for the past 4 to 5 yrs. it's gotten to the point where I even sold the best PSG that I've ever owned and decided to go back to the basics of non-pedal steel, because; with all the un-country that it is necessary to play nowadays I've completely lost any interest in playing publicly with any group. From now on, I play what I want to play and can the rest! All my 56-yrs. that I've been playing, I've always avoided going to hear any group that didn't carry a steel guitar. I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune, but; I also consider myself to be a realistic individual. Therefore, please just remember that although you hope for the best in the future, and you may deserve it; the best can illude you! I hope you find satisfaction in whatever you do!

Roy is dumping a world class pedal steel player, AND a world class banjo player, and he has plenty of fame and fortune and apparently a big ego also, because it sounds to me like;

One guy plays the piano parts, the other plays synthesized string/horn parts.

It's done all the time. George Strait, who nobody disses here on the Forum, has Ron Huckaby playing piano and Jeff Sturm playing keyboard "strings."
