Oh, by the way, you have to look good in tight fitting jeans to play steel in Pigeon Forge. Could that be Herby's problem? |

We have our tickets, 4 of us are going to the show, really looking forward to it, too. Both of these great artists are my favorites.

These are the shows that you say "and I get paid too". I'm really looking forward to this one. I am a big Ray Price fan. I'm not sure about Buddy being there but I've heard the same rumor. He's going to be in my office next week so I'll ask him and let you know. Any of you guys that come to the show let me know I'd like to meet you. |

Just my quick 2 pennies worth about Jack Smith --- I met him maybe 3 years ago now at Grove, Ok. where he not only played superb back up for Connie but provided great back up vocals at the same time !! Absolutely the best single evening enjoyment of my life !! You folks that havn't had that pleasure yet---you're in for a wonderful surprise !!! -( |

But Stoney, you play at Dollywood. Tight jeans just wouldn't fit their family oriented atmosphere. OK, maybe I should have researched all the working steel players jeans in Pigeon Forge before making such an unsubstantiated statement. I'll try to do better next time. |

Is Junior Mercer still playing in Pigeon Forge? He was at the Country Tonight show a few years back. To get back on topic, it would be great to hear Buddy Emmons playing his new JCH with Ray Price. Keep us posted. |

Hey Guys, I told you earlier that I would ask Buddy if he was going to be in Pigeon Forge. The answer is no. He was by my office signing the prints of the "Steel Guitar Master Series" when I asked him. By the way this print is awesome. If you haven't seen it, go to the thread "Buddy Emmons Should Be Hung". Any Buddy Emmons fan needs this print.
Mike Headrick put a lot of care into this and I'm proud to be associated with this project. |

And Stoney how are you my freind I might be down to Pigion Forge to the Compatition again this comming March.Hope to see you and talk to you again.

Yeah, Nashville seems to be a sick magnet for not only nasty rumours, but also for the people that start and/or spread them.
All of this started after Bill Plemmons simple, innocent question, and almost everyone else had to get their uninformed $.02 worth in. No one ever thought(or cared)to ask Buddy or even me about it,except for Jack Smith. Then,I get a call from Scotty wondering why Buddy cancelled the Convention, but would be doing a date with Ray,like I would know? Thanx for putting me in the middle,my ahem, friends. Yeah, thats just what I need is to get "The Look" the next time I see Buddy. Trying to bait me into tripping over myself is one thing; thats easy pickins'. But drawing Scotty and Buddy into it is just unnacceptable behavior. treacherous bunch of heathens...Im reminded of a Loretta Lynn song title here: 2 words, one of them is ".... City".
Not to mention that this happens to be my current JOB we're being so carefree with here, folks. Smiley,if I cant quote you, might it not be better for you to stop yer jaw from flappin"? And my sincere thanx to Jack Smith for pursuing and posting the rest of the story.
Funny thing about all this is that my boss heard this very rumour too while we were out on the road the other day and asked me why I wasnt going to be with them in Pigeon Forge, and was I absolutely sure that Buddy would travel to play the job or did they need to pick him up? Weeeellll now......I let him know in no uncertain terms that I would be there if he wanted me, but that Id pay good $$ to see them and Buddy together
And after explaining to him the circuitous route that this bit of nonsense took,I can also,(with a high degree of certainty)tell you all WHO wont EVER be playing with The Chief, and I dont mean the Big E or me. Im having a contest; first correct guess gets a free set of Extra-Lively's. email me to try yer luck
You know, we steel players arent the only folks who read the posts on b0b's forum. You start spreading things that arent true and the result is me having to explain to my boss that he should know better than to believe near anything that comes out of the mouths(and elsewhere)of most folks in this town
On a brighter note; It'll be good to see you this weekend,Jack. Looking forward to hearing you pick with Connie again. Ive always admired your great playing and your original approach to Connie's tunes
There's a saying that seems to have started with Jimmy Day when he was asked once about who might be currently working on steel with The Chief. Jim's reply remains foremost in my mind; "if it aint Buddy or me(Jimmy)on the job, whoever they got is just subbing for us!"
For now, Im in that sub chair, and I extend my sincere sympathies to whichever self-appointed Pope that that seems to be harelipping at the moment, but I have no intention of leaving. Thats not to say that I couldnt be knocked out of there fairly easily. After all, this IS Nashville, I did lose my job with Waylon Jennings to a steel-learning guitar player, so anythings possible. And,IF Buddy wanted to play with RP,as I said earlier I for one would travel at my own expense to see he and Ray together again
Now,I hope thats clear enough.
peace,
mc

Hey Sam, if Russ is still playing with Connie, he sure has taken on an uncanny resemblance to Jack Smith!
Jack, I heard you on the radio last weekend with Connie and I agree with my husband that you play so beautiful and are one of the best.
