Places To Visit In Nashville

Post by Paul King »

We made it to Nashville Monday morning and I am having a blast. I have been through a tour at the Grand Ole Opry, went by the Ryman Auditorium, been to the Opryland Hotel which is just fabulous, and went to Steel Guitar Nashville and saw Bobbe Seymore and looking for more. I am looking for a couple more places to see where I can hear some music if anyone has a recommendation.

Well, tonight is "The Players" at 3rd and Lindley - http://www.3rdandlindsley.com/

Tuesday August 18

Amanda Martin and Melanie Torres – 6:00 pm

The Players featuring John Hobbs, Michael Rhodes, Brent Mason, Paul Franklin, Eddie Bayers – 9:30 pm

Otherwise, I suggest going down to Broadway and checking out places like The Wheel, Robert's Western World, Legends Corner, and so on. Lots of good steel players working gigs most nights.

Robert's Western Wear has both great music and is a historic building, the old ShoBud store and plant. There is a little memorial type thing to the Sho Bud.

Lately, I've been hearing about the Parthenon in Nashville, a full-scale replica of the original, is that right?

Thanks for the info. We went downtown on Broadway but we are going again. Hopefully I can find a recording studio to see and maybe the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Off to Franklin today to visit some friends and do some more sight seeing before leaving Friday morning. The highlight has been seeing the Opry and of course seeing Bobbe Seymore. I walked in and he was sitting at the computer. I looked at him and told him I had a warrant for his arrest to take him back to Texas. He chuckled and of course he gave me a big hug like he does everyone.

Whatever you do, don't miss the Parthenon.
A walk in the Park is pleasant enough in itself, but the stunning effect of seeing the statue of Athena as you go inside is unforgettable.
Give her my regards!
And don't miss Gruhn's either.
Cheers

Unfortunately, there was a mishap with the Parthenon recently.

Before that disgruntled bluegrass band commandeered it and sailed off down the Cumberland River. And BTW, I'm at the Long Hollow Jamboree Thurs, and Eddie Lang (Whisperin' Bill) is at the Hotel Preston.

Thanks guys for all the input. We went to Franklin on Wendesday and saw some friends I used to play and travel with their band. Had a great visit. Today more sight seeing and head home Friday morning. I have to tell you seeing the Grand Ole Opry made me want to play some steel. Thanks Bobbe for the kind words. You certainly are a first class gentleman.

I visited Nashville a couple years ago with my wife. The Country Music Hall of Fame is definitely worth a trip if you've got the time. It wasn't high on our list initially but the museum was great.

Also, Hatch Show Print on Broadway is cool for gig posters.

A 2nd vote for the country music hall of fame...see Buddy's steel, Shot's dobro, Chet's guitar, and a diorama of stuffed squirrels from Hank Williams!

Well, My trip is over and now I am back in reality. We had a good vacation while in the Nashville area and I want to go back sometime. Thanks for all the input and suggestions. Seeing Bobbe Seymore again was a highlight foe me and seeing his music store. I wish him the very best in business even though he told me he was down to two planes right now. Bobbe is just a nice guy whic a sense of humor for sure.
