Pre-announcement Announcement
I got up early this morning to listen on-line to The Steel Guitar Jam on krfc / 88.9 which is broadcast every Thursday morning from 6:00 to 7:30 AM from Colorado. Chris was the DJ this morning and all of sudden I hear him talking about his friend’s recent music project and how it shows how the pedal steel guitar is used in all kinds of music – he was talking about me and I got over 12 minutes of air time, it was pretty exciting. The 3 cuts he played were - While my guitar gently weeps, The Four Tops medley and Runaway.
Please don’t get the wrong impression of what kind of music you can expect to hear on his show – just before my music was Winnie Winston & Jerry Byrd.
Thanks to Chris Kennison of Seldom Fed Studio here in Fort Collins, CO, I’ve completed recording my CD –

It’s not actually available for commercial distribution yet because there is still other work to do. And though I wish it wasn’t so, it probably makes sense to wait until my new instructional website is up and running, and that’s still a month or 2 away. I’m pretty sure it will be much easier to handle the sales and distribution of the CD direct from the website.

I’ll make an official announcement at the right time - I guess I’m just too excited to not say anything at all until then. And yes, of course I realize this style of music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
I did a fair amount of multi-tracking throughout the album.
For example – on “Tired of Waiting” there are 4 separate psg parts going at the same time, because I’m playing the original 6-string guitar licks & rhythms in addition to playing the melody in harmony on top of those, and I used that same basic approach for “My Girl” as well.
Though not absolute clones, I tried to stay true to the original feel and attitude of each of these pop/rock tunes from the 60’s.
These songs have not been countrified or jazzed up to any extent, either in the rhythm tracks or the way I expressed them on the pedal steel, and I used an overdriven distorted sound whenever I felt it was appropriate.

Well it’s getting closer.
The rhythm only tracks are now done.
Artwork and text for the 4-page insert, is not complete, but at least it’s been started.
All the mechanical rights have been legally secured, though I’m still waiting for the final OK and the correct wording for the liner notes from Experience Hendrix for Little Wing.
The video shoot for the instructional DVD and also some YouTube videos is scheduled for September 18 through the 21st.
My research work for the new “Expanded Minor Scales” is complete, but please don’t ask me for copies yet.
When they’re ready for distribution I’ll make an official announcement.
The original chart of the easy ways to find and play Major, Minor & 7th scales on the E9 neck without needing to engage any knee levers is still available if there’s anyone that hasn’t seen these yet. I intend on having them on the new website as well, and will be available for viewing or downloading.

I'm not sure when Marc will be ready to officially launch his DVD but I thought I'd give this a bump and say that I got to hear snippets of it and it's fantastic. Very professionally done.

Good on ya! What a great list of tunes! Our band just started doing Little Wing. We also do about half of the list. The band members and the audiences love the steel guitar in this context.

Thanks Jerry, I wish I was close enough to go hear your band play some of these tunes live.
I’ll keep you posted with my projects as things progress.
I just received final authorization today from Hendrix Experience for the legal right to include Little Wing on the album. That whole process took over 2 months after I completed recording the CD. My website guy is now finishing up the picture I’m including for the CD cover and the website and hopefully within the next couple of weeks the new website will be on-line. I’m going to proofread the liner notes and hopefully within the next couple of days be ready to have the CD duplicated, printed and then hopefully be ready for sale and distribution when the website goes up. I want to have a lot of free pedal steel guitar instructional material available for viewing and downloading, but probably only a portion of it will be ready immediately. Last month we shot a lot of video for an instructional DVD that will eventually be for sale, but that still has a lot of editing that needs to be done before its ready.

I'm very pleased to announce that the CD is now ready for sale & distribution. The website is up and running, but only the CD is currently available on it. All the free instructional materials should be there for viewing or downloading within the next few weeks.
