I see one on Ebay, looks brown or maybe walnut. Was this an original color?

Are you talking about this one? It's been refinished and a different pickup installed. At that point in time the Fender Studio Deluxe was offered in a white or black finish only.

I've seen several Fenders that have been stripped of the painted finish that are that color.

It looks like they did a good job on the refinish but .... is it just me or does that humbucker pickup look offensive? Whoa!

Mark and Andy, I could not have said it better--horrible to look at but I just can't get it outta my head!!!!Evil or Very Mad I just keep asking WHY????? I may need to seek professional help...

And the worst part is that the seller probably could made a nice little console Fender, regardless of the "incorrect" color choice...oh well

I questioned it and here's what the seller replied:

It's addressed in Gruhns book and Fender called it a dark finish, which is walnut. I mentioned the pickup in the description....Thanks

ron

added: he revised the listing noting there are traces of a lighter color, so it's been refinished.
