Lloyd Green Little Darlin Recordings RE-RELEASED

Hi Folks I have some news that I just found on the internet. Lloyd Green's Little Darlin recordings from the mid 1960's are being re-released. It is going to be titled Lloyd Green "MASTER OF THE STEEL STRINGS" its on the KOCH lable.
It's scheduled release date is 7/27/04.

The CD contains 20 songs

Also recently released, Bobby Helms, on Little Darlin. Mr Lloyd is all over this one as well. Also released is the first one on
Johnny Paycheck. This is early early Payckeck, and is the tape that was given to
Aubrey Mayhew, before he signed with the The
Little Darlin label. If you like Paycheck, this is a must have.
Soon also to be released Stonewall Jackson,
and more Paycheck. Mr. Mayhew has leased all the Little Darlin recordings to Koch. I personally look forward to all of them as Mr.
Lloyd is all over most of them, and is out front where you can hear him.

Another bonus for the Paycheck recordings: Peggy's late husband, "Groovy" Joe Poovey... a Texas musical legend as a songwriter, performer, and radio personality... wrote some fantastic material for JP back in those days.

Leigh Howell friend and forumite also had some releases on Little Darlin. Also with Lloyds steel all over them. Would be nice to see Leigh back in the spotlight.

Joe. Thanks for the thought! I was mesmerized when I did those sessions! LLoyd was the session leader. Those are memories that I'll always cherish!I also did a session with Hal Rugg, so I had a chance to hear two legends up close so to speak!!!:

I got both of these two CD`s with Lloyd and Paycheck today.Great stuff.However,can someone tell me more about the Paycheck CD.The liner notes say it`s demo`s from 58-62,and to me it sounds like there are many different steelers on these various sessions.A couple sounds like a young Emmons,one like Curly Chalker,some like Jimmy Day,etc.I am not sure Lloyd was with Paycheck then,all the time these were pre-Little Darlin. Or what???
Maybe some of you guys know.

The Lloyd Green CD arrived yesterday. The CD is, I presume, a compilation of The Hit Sounds and Green Country albums. The booklet has "the original album liner notes" but one of them seems to be from the "Day For Decision" LP.

I think there were only three Little Darlin' albums - can anyone shed any light on any re-issue plans for the Day For Decision album, or why it was excluded from the current issue?

I have the original recordings of the song titles you mentioned, played by Lloyd. It is great that such great playing will be on CD. I'm looking forward to getting my copy.

Egil,

The pre-Little Darlin' stuff that Johnny Paycheck recorded around 1960 (mostly under the name Donny Young) does not have Lloyd Green on it. Lloyd started regular session work in Nashville shortly after he arrived in 1964.

The Little Darlin' records in fact offer some great and innovative playing by Lloyd, for artists like Johnny Paycheck (the first album release was "At Carnegie Hall" which was NOT a live album), Country Johnny Mathis and Bobby Helms. Aubrey Mayhew was the producer on all those records. Lloyd of course recorded also three solo albums for the label:

The Hit Sounds (1965)
Day For Decision (1966)
Greene Country (1966)

Great to see that material reissued!

As a matter of fact,Carnegie Hall Inc. was going to sue Paycheck & Mayhew,unless they changed the title of the album,which they did. Speaking Of MR. Mayhew,I still have a check from him,dated Sept. '58.,for $85.
