I've having James Adams in Louisiana build me a square neck acoustic guitar. He does this in addition to building some very nice resonator guitars.
I sent him a deposit the other day and this morning he sent me some pictures as to the progress he has made on my guitar so far.
I thought you might be interested.

Very nice! That back is particularly spectacular I find that for acoustic steel music, I'm especially fond of the sound of a solid neck flat top. (non reso) Even having owned a very nice Weissnborn type, I still prefer the sound my cheapie flat top set up for lap style. |

Yes, the back of the guitar is beautiful.
I had several choices of wood for the back and sides of the guitar. But I really liked the looks of 1/4 sawn curly maple.
I started out on a square neck acoustic guitar many years ago and really had a desire to own another one.
I plan on putting a couple of pickups on it after I get it. On my Weissenborn, I have a Sunrise magnetic pickup and a Baggs under saddle pickup on it. I plan on doing the same on this guitar.
If you want to see what the Adams guitars look like, you can pull up the site: www.adamsresonator.com or Elderly has a couple of Adams guitars for sale right now also. |

Very snazzy...
I found the Adams website a while back and was impressed that he keeps his prices relatively low for American-made, handmade instruments.
I love acoustic steels--let us know how it sounds!

That's a beautiful looking guitar. I'm impressed that he can build a solid wood guitar by hand and sell it at such a low price. I hope you'll post a sound clip after it's completed. |

Yes, I'm excited to receive it.
Somebody posted a while ago about Beard building an acoustic, non resonator, guitar. I checked it out and the cost was prohibitive!
Then I started checking out the Adams. Decided it was something I could afford. Jim is excellent to work with, also.
He gives you a choice of woods, finishes and etc.
I'm having him jazz up the fretboard a little bit for me.
I'll keep you all informed.

Jim sent me some more pictures of the guitar he is building for me. In fact, it seems like he is building two square neck, acoustic guitars and gave me the pick of the litter. I'm taking the one on the right. He thumped the top and said it had the best tone. He sure is a pleasure to work with. He is in the process of spraying on the final clear coats, then he wants it to hang for about 5 days before the final buffing.
Here are some pictures:

Erv - VEEEERY nice looking guitar - I was thinking, might be a good idea to let it stay at my place in Iowa for a few weeks before it heads north to let it adjust to the humidity so when it gets to Minnesota it wouldn't be such a shock to it - Just trying to be a help you understand - DB |
